Hey there, I'm the new guy, lol.
So I finally got a bike, I bought a 90 750F just over a month ago, and I'm happier then a fat kid in a candy store!!
It fires up first try, has power and accelerates from idle all the way into high rpm and is really smooth and handles like it drives itself.
I did find that while checking chain tension and both sprocket, that the front sprocket has play in it on shaft but the bolt is tight...
Will a new chain and sprocket kit solve this? I'm hoping the shaft is way harder then sprocket and won't be FUBAR.
The other thing is the speed at which your traveling in relation to the gear and RPM being used...
On the hiways when in 6th gear and holding 5000-5200rpm, my speed is 75mph. I have no idea if this is correct or not, but I feel that the RPM should be lower for that speed or the speed should be higher for that RPM.
    Thanks a bunch
    Cheers

    Welcome and congrats!

I own a 92 and 95 (among others). Yours is a great generation and can last forever.

How many miles (kilometers) does your bike have?

Without actually seeing / feeling your chain and sprockets, some counter shaft sprocket play is normal and yours is likely just fine. But again, I don't know what condition your chain and sprockets are in.

Your speed / RPMs sound about right, but why don't you verify the sprocket teeth and compare to stock. You can then make some changes if you want to.

Oh... and you only have one chance to post pics in your first post. Shame. We need / like pics.

Hi Jared and Welcome to the MadHouse:Welcome:

Great to see another happy VFR owner. I see you are based not far from Chilliwack which is home to Randy who rides a 5th Gen and may be happy to catch up with a neighbour if he is not already off on one of his trips to Alaska or Mexico with Long.

When you get time don't forget to add a photo of your VFR - the folks on here like photos and it is easy - just click the "upload a file" link and follow the prompts to select an upload an image from your computer and then use "more options" to decide how it will be displayed.

I did the maths and assumed that the bike was all stock including the tyre size (170/60) and final gearing (43/16), in which case at 62 mph/100km/hr, you should see 4500 rpm. At 75 mph the revs should be 5436.

Worth noting that there are no accurate speedos that I've ever seen on a bike. Check actual speed with GPS if you want to "really" know.

Also, tire sizes aren't the same when the #s are the same, so you may want to check that out too.

    Have fun!

    Welcome.

Best year for graphics IMHO ( with the exception of the European market 50th Anniversary edition) and in the best colour.

Enjoy the ownership - you are privileged as not many left after over 30 years.

Welcome to the World. As you have no doubt learned, Hope is a sought after destination for us scooter hooters. I've often ridden out there for lunch. A little correction though. I have a 6th gen..2006, and I have managed to rack up 227,000 km on mine. It still runs like a charm. The only major thing I have done to it is a new clutch basket. Well, I didn't do it. The great fellas at Carter Motorsports in Vancouver found a solution to my problem. I can't help you with your questions though. I stumble though doing work on mine. I guess I manage not too bad though. I'm about to change the brake lines. There is nothing apparent wrong with them but they are the originals and I thought I might change them before I blow some of them out on the road.

Maybe we might get together for a ride, coffee, beer...what ever, some time. If the VFR is being worked on, I have an Africa Twin as well. Have they re-opened the Orthello Tunnels there yet. I see the Fraser is starting to flow there now. The Vedder is creeping up too.

Sorry for late response. She has 68000 km and I'm third owner. According to the numbers everything is stock (sprockets-tire size) PO had new Michelin Pilots put on last season, and the only concern with chain and sprockets is the play, or wobble, the front one has.

From what I understand, Othello will not be re-opening at all. Because of the amount of water that went threw and how high it was, they called the structural integrity of the tunnels. They don't even open the parking lot and when I went down to see, park rangers made sure I didn't stop
...but you can still get at them, there's a trail up by the lake here that comes up on other side of tunnels...
Let me know when your available for a ride or in town...I don't have alot going on most of the time

I will do that. Just had a toenail pulled yesterday on my shifting foot so I am off the bike for a couple days. But I will be back on it very soon and looking for a reason to go somewhere. I will PM you with my phone number.

That is too bad about the tunnels. I have taken a few people out there including a couple from VFRW from California. I had hoped to take our own Reg71, one of the moderators here, when he and I went up to Alaska last year but I learned they were closed.

Matter of fact, I am meeting a few guys in Agassiz at 0800 Friday morning, and we are doing a day ride through the canyon to Spence's Bridge, down Hwy 8 to Merritt, the 5A to Princeton, and the Crow's nest to Hope and home again on the 7. I would invite you along but it is a closed group. The rest of the weekend is booked getting ready for a quick shake down trip with the 5th Wheel in prep for a 2 month RV trip to Manitoba. But I am not leaving to Manitoba until June 14 so I will have a few days I can whip out there for coffee or something before I head out. I think I sent you a private message with my contact info. Lets get together. Do you work in Hope of commute to the city?
