Hullo! I'm the owner of a 1998 VFR800 in Italian Red. I'm unaware of the full history of the bike, but for some reason the front wheel fender and the right side fairing have gotten discolored over the years to a more pale red.

I'm looking to fix that with either OEM parts or a full fender replacement. I haven't been able to find OEM parts anywhere except eBay, and I'm not sure I trust those sellers.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe full fairing kits? I LOVE my VFR and I just want it to be as pretty as I know she is.

Why not just get a respray...and you could fix the color. :)

Haven't considered that only because I have zero experience with resprays. Have people had good experiences with places that do resprays? What's the average cost? Any downfalls?

Maybe we should trade fairings, my left one is the faded one, right is still very sharp

Actually I just paid <$400 for one of those Chinese compression-molded fairing kits. Given how rare and pricey OEM fairings are I decided to go this route since there is a lack of no-cut frame sliders available. Not too fussy though, if it's a good 5 footer I'm fine with it. I'll report back once I get a chance to install it!

Yes please do report back! Do you have a link to the site you purchased from? And what do you mean by "good 5 footer"?

It was just off eBay - actually I negotiated even further off eBay since I wanted the "VFR" graphics and it wasn't included. Actually the other thread on here (custom fairings) seems to have it even cheaper, though I don't know their cost to your door.

For me a good 5-footer means it looks more or less OEM from that distance. Any closer and you can start seeing odd panel gaps or rough edges, but it's fine with me - my SV is full chinese faired and I'm fine with it. Truthfully I never want to have a "nice" bike since I'd cry if it was dropped

I'm guessing it was parked outside without a cover facing the sun. The right side fairing is more exposed as the bike is leaning left when on the kickstand.

Welp. Whatever you do, I can't recommend the ~$400 fairing kits on Ebay, fitment is hot garbage. There was a lot of drilling/filing/etc required, many bolt holes were misaligned and the windshield wouldn't even fit properly (I ended up reusing the OE windshield with some modification). Also the colour match is way off, so now my bike is 2 colours. I wouldn't be surprised if the manufacturer never even test fit this on an actual bike.

If I could do it again I wouldn't. Ah well - I guess my OE fairings will now be preserved and make nice hanging wall art in my living room. Don't really have a good overall pic since I wasn't very happy in the moment lol.

Yup, that's exactly what happened. And I didn't notice it because I wasn't riding due to the pandemic.

Ooof I'm so sorry. But thank you for the update! I'm gonna head to the dealer this weekend and see if they have some option for OEM parts that I don't know of. And probably ask them about resprays to see if they have any recs. The lead tech at local Glendale Honda dealer rides a 4th gen VFR so he might have the backchannel hookup.

But other recommendations appreciated! Anyone have experience with resprays?

Here's an overall pic I got the other day. It's very apparent the front tire hugger and tank are a darker shade than the rest (I reused the original tire hugger since the aftermarket one rubbed the front tire massively):

Do you still have the OEM right side fairing? Would you be willing to sell?

Responded to your message - this gives me an opportunity to share my living room wall art. It will hang there until the day I choose to sell the bike (who knows when that will be, though)
