I was rebuilding my 1986 vfr 750 over the winter and was starting it for the first time. Everything was going great until oil started pouring out of the two holes in the pictures below. Both holes are on the sides of the front bank on the bike. I don't know what those are or if I did something wrong. Advice would be helpful thanks 16816574410484664677183983829000.jpg 16816575462791550675431625339594.jpg

Those are just drain holes for the spark plug wells. You either have not installed your plugs correctly or you have a terrible valve cover leak that is leaking oil down in there from above

So you have been "rebuilding" a VFR, but you don't know how to check either of the things I mentioned?

What kind of work were you doing?
Were you in that area "rebuilding"?

    Check your plugs.
Grab a flashlight, start looking around and investigating, maybe while it's running.
Unbolt the bottom radiator mounts and it can swing forward for a better view perhaps.

I'm not sure what else, you want someone else, to do at this point.

You are not going to get oil pouring out from a badly installed spark plug, but the Captain is correct that a badly installed gasket on the cam cover (specifically, the circles that seal around the spark plug wells) will do that.

Yeah, I know. But sometimes people pour some oil down the plug holes on engines that have sat. I am also constantly amazed around here by things that shouldn't happen, happening some how.

A-ha, I had not thought of that one.

I was reasonably convinced my first ST1300 had some major mechanical malady like a blown head gasket as it used to show an oil weep around the head gasket area, but that was as simple as a badly fitted camcover gasket too.

Pull the plug caps and shine a light down there, see if there's any oil...... I vote valve cover gasket not quite seated right.
