Hey people i have an 01 vfr that ive been blasting around on for few years now.. recently the f1light would pop on occasionally after I'd stopped but would disappear with a touch of brake or gas..
However the other day I was thinking i could hear what sounded like a small exhaust leak higher up in the rev range.. on the way home on hway cruising it appeared to get louder and then cpl km from home it sounded like id lost some cylinders (had gopro on hopefully some footage to come)but it kept going and im a fan of don't stop so i nursed it through some red light and up a footpath for hslf a block at road works to home.. died as soon as i stopped revving. It still starts etc but sounds horrible. Until i sort some footage to upload is there anyone patient and knowledgeable that can help me figure out whats happening and what my options are.
I originally bought it cheap online and ive got attached to the wheelies, the noise and the fact that i could have a load of fun without spending loads of money. FB_IMG_1666033716754.jpg

I must have missed where you said, "I verified the oil is in good condition and properly filled."

I changed the oil and filter about 2 weeks ago.. must have forgotten about that..and used oil and filter from repco that was compatible with the bike according to the numberplate system.
I will check levels etc though.
I think i thought the f1 light was a low oil light by its behaviour and replaced it first.
Not until afterwards I saw it still randomly flick on i clicked it wasn't

With the bike cold, start manipulating the exhaust system as hard as you can in multiple directions. See if you feel excessive movement or clunking noises. If you have developed a leak (thru a loose fitting or cracks/breaks) it could be bad enough that the bikes fuel system can't compensate enough to run properly.

Other than that, time to start digging. It's going to be very hard for anybody to remotely diagnose your run-ability issues (as always), there are simply too many variables.

Some video and sound from multiple areas might help, but I don't think there's gonna be a magic answer for you.

    What year is it?

If it's 2000 or 2001, maybe an oxygen sensor has come loose or broken. That could explain the light, the noise and then ultimately the running issue.

Have you checked to see if your bike has any fault codes? May give a better idea of what to chase.

So it's been ridden over 100,000 miles like you treat a rental car.

It certainly has.. however they obviously kept it well serviced and repaired .
Their delivery guy dropped it off to me and strongly expressed his feelings towards the salesman that sold it..
Would have bought it myself if id known he grumbled as he rolled it out of the van.

Made me feel better about buying an untested hi miles bike unseen anyway.. ive had 3 yrs with no unexpexted problems till now

I'll have to say... it does look pretty good (from the 1 picture) for that mileage.

Do some digging and let us know.

Sort of sounds like an intake vacuum leak; if the MAP sensor on the back of the airbox gets unplugged (electrically or the vacuum hose is off) it will throw up the FI light and probably not run too well. Not sure whether it would make noise however. I also know that if the PAIR valves develop a leak they make the bike sound awful, and I would guess that if the PAIR reed valve fails it would do Bad Things to the fuel air mix. Put the bike in diagnostic mode and read the blinky light codes and you may find your culprit. You can download the manual here: https://www.vfrdiscussion.com/index...onda-vfr-service-manual-optimized-bookmarked/
