Cool. Is that a stencil used on the winker housing? Think Ive seen you do that on some other stuff.

You really want that site glass to come out, you even had your lucky horseshow out I see.

    Nice progress.

On the way to breakfast this morning and my neighbor hands me a rear brake caliper he found for his custom '68 Triumph. He thought it was a good size and would fit and work good.

"Where did you get an RC30 rear caliper?"

    PXL_20230326_153908691[1].jpg

He found it on a shelf at a junk yard in Ohio. The thing is clean and looks nearly new. He asked, "why would they have an RC30 caliper there?" I have no idea, but I'm pretty damn sure that's what it is. The pistons were TINY. The whole thing looks like a normal VFR rear caliper, but scaled down.

I flipped it over and saw the "555" casting and thought of you instantly.

Good find right there! 555 Representing!

I am a logo guy so I try to add a little flavor where you least expect it without going too crazy.

It's a horseshoe wine holder, but we hate wine so it holds my CMSNL, Ipad and it can be good luck. lol

Test ride down the driveway. The bike runs great. The forks came out great, with no leaks. The bike needs SS lines, but that is not in the cards. I roll up with smiles and my wife is like "you have a leak". FAAACK. Turns out the shock is blown out and leaking everywhere. Are these shocks easy to rebuild? OI..

Yeah.... don't bother trying to rebuild. They are not easy nor worth it.

Is this bike for sure a flip?

This is a flip, so I didn't want to go too crazy, but it may add significant value overall to the bike to have fresh suspension. Any thoughts on direction?

    Small thread hi-jack again...

Turned out to be what really looks like a 1995 RC45/NC35 caliper. Those were the brakes pads that fit and the piston sizes. WTF? Sitting on a shelf in a Ohio breaker yard.

The real question is, where is the rest of the bike that belonged to?

That is crazy! The world is smaller than we think. RC45 and NC35 use the same caliper?
    Pretty fucking cool.

Very good, you're welcome. It was good when I pulled it, but fingers still crossed. Let me know if you have any issues.

Old shock blown out indeed. Would no air cause the leaking seal ? image.jpg image.jpg

They still have springs, but need some air for "pre-load". Prob failed from not being used, and maybe stored inproperly. Like I said, I've never seen a 500 shock actually fail.

Cool. I will put a little air in there as recommended earlier. And see what we have. Thanks!

And there you have it. 9.8 mile test ride and all systems go. Really needs SS braided lines on the front. Thanks for the rear shock, glad that was all it was. Tomorrow I will put on the Super traps and see how she sounds. No leaks of anything. A joy to ride. Clip-ons don’t even hurt my wrists. Pulls hard to 10+ and silky smooth on the straight. image.jpg
