    UPDATE:

    No Go

Cyl 3 wouldn't even do much on choke today. while the header pipes onto other 3 were over 350 degrees +, #3 could only manage 105-130 degrees even on choke.

Knocked it off choke and basically the same thing. started to drop temperature form 110 down to 90 before I shut it down..

its getting "some" fuel I guess, since its 130 degrees, but not enough

Same results as usual, you can hear the popping & stumbling in the exhaust note

    on to Valves next

    Here's the video

Not sure when ill get to it, maybe later in the week if im lucky, I have another task laying ahead of me....18 - 20 cord fire wood to block, split and stack

You have gone above and beyond with your carby's. They are probably the cleanest, best set up, 1993 GSXR carbs in the US. Now, I may be completely wrong, but I don't believe it's the carbs at this point.

    Yes, time to move on.

While shimming valves will be a PITA, at this point I'm just hoping to find a smoking gun so I can get it sorted out. If theyre all in spec ill be very puzzled.

The thing that does have me puzzled recently is, I was dropping a cylinder every time it started up. so far lately its just #3.

So maybe I had more than one problem going on at the same time. (?)

i think your low speed mixture adjustments are air screws rather than fuel screws, right ?

they're fuel screws Squirrel, on the engine side of the carbs. As I understand it, air screws are typically on the air box side. IMG_3873.JPG

OK, try adjusting the #3 screw in and out while the bike is running to see if you can find a sweet spot or any noticeable difference.

I had a spare hour this morning so I popped out to the shop.

Good new & possibly bad news.

    Good News :

Bike ran a bit better today after the 6th time thru carb 3 and a much lighter seating of the pilot screw

It would run on #3 if I cracked the throttle and held the rev's up a bit.

I turned out the pilot screw 1/4 turn and it seemed to help a bit on idle

Used the vac gauges for Carb sync and all 4 were very close already, I didnt get into syncing anything at this point, just wanted to see what was going on

    Bad news (maybe):

Noticed a wee bit of milky residue on the oil sight glass after I ran it today.

It Wasn't there prior to starting it today.

I changed the oil a few months back before I started work on the bike and there was no milky stuff in it

I just changed the oil today again after seeing the residue on the sight glass, no milky stuff in the oil now either

not sure if that can be from repeated starting, and stopping without an extended ride, ie the heating and cooling cycles causing moisture (in the past 6 months its been started/run/stopped many many many many times) or....I have a fucked head gasket.

Ill keep an eye on that and also check the coolant at the rad cap once she's cold.

I'll bet it's from repeated starts introducing moisture every time without a prolonged real heat cycle to dry the crankcase out. Hot - Cold - Hot - Cold.

I wouldn't discount anything at this point, but further investigation would require leak down testing to confirm.

If it were a US moto, I'd consider taking it off your hands when you've reached your limit on frustration. However, that might be looked upon as somewhat smarmy :Eyebrows:

If this keeps up NB, I may deliver it to you. LOL

In all honesty, if I dont solve this soon, it will get parked until a later date when I can summon the fortitude to continue. But today was a step in the right direction, so we will see

Why not look for a reasonably priced set of carbs on eBay … slap em on and see what happens?

I wouldn't feel right buying it from you anyway, as I really want to see you have a successful conclusion to your journey. It wouldn't be fair and it certainly wouldn't be good form on my part.
