Morning all, got a bit of a odd one here. Got the bike up and running fine- starts and idles spot on revs cleanly on the stand etc now the freakyness. I can set off for a ride and within 1 mile it stumbles and dies as though its out of juice, starts up fine again and then does the same again. After this the bike is perfectly normal clean acceleration no stumbling and idles at 1100 rpm steadily. Carbs rebuilt with new o rings genuine jets etc not balanced properly yet but its pretty damn close .Cant think for the life of me what would cause this. Any pointers greatly received.

    Cheers

Gas cap not venting? CA cap installed on a 49 state tank? CA fuel tank vent kinked or purposely plugged?

Next time it happens, quickly pop the cap and listen / feel for a rush of air.

Thats what occurred to me but the tube is kink free and appears to be doing its job. Cant think of anything else do you think putting the choke off to soon could have any bearing?
    Cheers

If you're running lean it might.

Do you warm it up at all or just start and go? I don't leave until my bikes can idle without choke.

Whatever it is it’s fuel related … I assume the filter is clean

Jump the relay and pump a litre or so to check

Usually leave it with the choke on while I put my lid on and lock the garage then knock it off whilst going through my estate. I’ll try leaving it on longer this weekend

you could try 1/2 turn out on the mixture screws.

Fuel pump is controlled by fuel cut relay.

Relay behind left hand side panel.

Yellow/ Red wire is used to sense engine running. If engine revs low relay will cut power to pump.

To test if the cause of issues remove connector from relay and short Black and Black/Blue wires on connector. This will give permanent power to pump.

Second option is to replace or bypass fuel pump.
Ideally borrow a pump from another RC24.

that's not quite correct. i believe the pump will get power, once the engine has been started, until it stalls out completely or until the key is turned off, but i do agree that he should try the bypass.

That is the theory but seen some strange things over the years such as running out of fuel when idling if idle rpm is low.

    Thread highjack sort of.
My UK special (soon to be copyrighted ..lol) takes a while to warm up and choke is required for a long period (idle around 1k left unchecked and no choke). I am tempted to raise idle, but when I messed with the idle the bike is revving higher ( +200-500 rmp) at full temperature at stoplights. I try to keep a happy medium so I don't pull up to a light at 2k idle. Normal or maybe need a slight tweak on settings?

Sounds like you might have an intake leak. That jetting should be super stable at idle and very responsive and consistent to changes.

NONE of my VFRs exhibit that behavior.

Take this over to your thread. I have more questions.

expect to fiddle with the idle adjustment screw if you want good running both cold and hot.

in order not to use too much c hoke and risk flooding the plugs, boost up idle and use less choke during warmup. later, after engine reaches operating temp, it naturally speeds up, so reach down and lower idle adjustment as necessary. that's why it's there, and i've always done this on my honda bikes.
