Well NB, your hope of it being an easy solution seems to have paid me dividends. I have some SUCCESS today

    Sometimes its the simple things.

Fired the bike up twice the morning and just like last month, it continued its dropping a cylinder cycle. Dropped 3 and 4 on the weekend and it dropped another cylinder each time this morning and in the end wouldn’t run at all. All 4 gone.

So I went to our local Bombardier dealer this morning and they happened to have 4 CR9E spark plugs in stock

Came home installed the plugs and Bingo, all 4 roared to life and it ran great.

I let her run a few minutes and that rattle came back from Cyl 3 pipe, the good news it its not a valve. Its the header pipe rattling in the head. The V&H headers only have a bolt down collar on Cyl 1 and 4, cyl 2 and 3 just sit in via pressure. I started pushing on the pipe with a long screw driver and when I pushed right at the spot it enters the head the rattle stopped. Why do they only have a collar on 1&4 ? I dont know for sure but I suspect to make removal easier since you cant change the oil filter with the V&H headers in place (you can with OEM headers). I did notice that cyl 4 pipe is 100% seated and the rest are slightly out, so ill mess with that happily rather than pulling a head off to free a sticky valve.

Ill still pull the valve cover tho and check all the valves

Ill see if I can seat the. headers better, and maybe new gaskets and a bit of red RTV Heat Silicone may help the vibration (?)

    Happy Happy Happy

thanks to everyone who took the time to provide input here, your a great group of fella's. Spark Plugs are odd things aren't they.

Oh, awesome. Yeah... plugs. I have had that lesson a couple times. Emphasis on "a couple" times, because apparently I don't learn some simple lessons that easy.

    Very good news.

Does it even matter? Troubleshooting something you can't look at, or hear, is typically a crap shoot, hence why I have done it exactly once in a couple years ...in this very thread. I'm good for the next 5 years now.

I've told a person at work in front of others:

"Sometimes it's better to just look stupid, than open your mouth and prove it."

Went over like a turd in a punch bowl. But it was worth it.

I believe it's time to get the Stray's thread back on track. I apologize for doing my part to steer it into the proverbial ditch. I am pretty interested in this thread for a couple reasons, mostly to do with a wild hair idea concerning a potential future GSXR project. Actually been talking about it to a guy that knows a thing or twelve about these GSXR's, so I'm interested to see the finished product when SC gets done. I'm trying to get clearance from someone to take some pics of a GSXR with a new type of rear suspension that is in the works and I hope to be able to post some pics of it here in this thread, with SC's approval, of course. In the meantime, back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Go for it NB, fine with me.

My Shwantz bike will be mainly a cosmetic overhaul since Suzuki designers seemed to employ a bunch of grade 4 kids to design the colours and graphics on the 93, I figured id try and do something that looks good.

Aside from that its the V&H pipes, SC project silencer and maybe one or two other small bits. Trying to find a set of flush mount signals that will suitably fit in the round holes of the fairing now. Cant bring myself to chop rear fenders, id like to complete it in a state thats easy to revert to stock in the future if someone wishes. Ive cursed many a PO, who chopped off a rear fender with a swazall, threw away a OEM exhaust & signals etc. Each to their own of course, but I much prefer it when I find a bike with a tail tidy and a box of OEM bits carefully preserved in bubble wrap..

No matter how simple, I'm always interested in a build and I totally agree with not chopping things up like lumberjack. Have two, if that's what you have to do. The Schwantz livery will be a huge improvement over the technicolor yawn livery typical of that era.

I will get some pics of the 4 link this morning, if I don't get too excited and forget.

I always try and secure another stock bit to modify when possible and put the nicest one away in a box. I have a lot of boxes. And as far as fenders, when I do modify, it's not a hack off. I keep the profile typically, but make it smaller so it still looks pretty original. Some fenders are F-ing ridiculous.

I bet those GSXR fenders are as rare as CBR900RR fenders.

Very cool bike and with your track record I am eager to see this replica take shape.

    Cheers!

Yea, IDK yet how rare they are for the 93/94's, they seem to be the red headed stepchild of the GSXR line. there are some real oddities about them (aside form the colours). I recall for the RC31 a rear fender would run over $700 if you could find one. (I was glad the PO had boxed all the OEM stuff )

'93 was Second year for the Water-cooled GIXXers I believe.

The exhausts are a 4-2-1 setup that you cannot use a slip on with, its an all or nothing Exhaust replacement unless your a wizard with welding and bending pipe. its why almost every 93/94 you see will have the OEM exhaust.

The swing arm is different on each side of the bike, banana on the right, traditional straight on the left.

The front fender has the largest boat anchor of an internal fender frame support I have Ever see,....correction Never seen, on a bike...I just have to ask Why ?

Theyre also very prone to 2nd gear failure quite early on if the rider hasn't been very deliberate in his/her shifts to 2nd gear. Mine, IDK yet as I only just got it running and now we're in sub zero temps and snow is coming and going. So.... that has to wait untill spring to test it and if its gone I have a spare trans here.

All this is why I have little remorse on modding it a bit. Kinda like I was with the Rothmans VF500. Not much to lose.
