I'm vaccinated for covid. I didn't have any trouble with second dose, but Drew had a little of the syndromic effect you can get when building up ATB. He was able to push through with ibuprofen and fluids so I did the same thing proactively and sailed right through. He felt bad but not bad enough he missed any work.

My advice is to go ahead and push the fluids and take a couple ibuprofen q2-4 hr after the second shot. After 2 days you should be out of the woods.

I was listening to a podcast today where the subject was President Trump running for congress and becoming the speaker of the house. The breakdown of how it could happen seemed quite possible. But what a shit storm that would be. Biden would be impeached in the first ten minutes.

When you consider your "freedom" is violated as you get your free vaccine.

As a Canadian, I find American politics very interesting... much more so in the past few years as the rhetoric and emotion has really ratcheted up, and I'm into my 40's now so probably just being more attentive to these things than I did when younger...

The new vaccine mandate that Biden proposed last night - very curious to see how that works out. On the side of logic, I agree that based on what I've read of the science/data, folks should get the shot to reduce the risk of hospitalization/serious effects. On the other hand, my non-native limited understanding of American values and politics is that a key tenet of your country's existence has been rights and freedoms and choice, with some limits on big government control.

The politicization of it all is very unfortunate... I think its going to be hard for folks to ever come together on this one... it really didn't help that when Trump was pushing creation of the vaccine, the other team was saying 'no way won't happen fast enough and don't trust it'... then they get into power and say trust it and now mandate it. For what its worth I do think they are correct, but that confusing message will turn some people off, and with the extreme divide in political ideals it seems that some will avoid the shot potentially just because the Democrats say its the right thing to do. That's just sad.

Canada may have a 3 (or 4 if you have a sense of humour, the greens lol) party system... but the reality is that we are a 2 party system as well, Liberals and Conservatives, who will at times work with the 3rd place team to pass some key measures. In my eyes there are 4 key failures to politics these days that I see very little in the way of solutions to....

    1. 2 party system just doesn't work , and the US proved it with such a close election. It is never going to feel fair to half the country if one side 'wins' by roughly 52-48% (not specific numbers, just trying to illustrate the point of how close it was). This is exascerbated by political rhetoric, differing ideals, and the concept that when the other team gets in they immediately repeal some changes made by the former government, and make statements which are negative against the almost-half of the population who voted the 'wrong' way.

    2. On the same point, its absolute BS that in countries like ours with millions and millions of people... you get to choose between 2 to run the country (ultimately). WTF is that. If there were more candidates that ACTUALLY COULD WIN, perhaps folks could find more of a middle ground where its not so darn polarized, ie a party which has some shared beliefs with both sides and is almost a mediator to make both 'sides' feel like they can make gains with the new government.

    3. Politicians sole job is to get re-elected. They are not working for the people. Sure in some cases they will pass laws and such that align with their values which will benefit people... but ultimately they want votes to stay in power because their ideals are 'better' or 'more correct' than the other side. This is not a true focus on whats best for the people or the country, but that is what we intend when we elect a government.

    4. Parties need to work together, period. It can't be 'us versus them'. Go back to point 1, if damn near half of the country feels that the new government does not fit their values, it just isn't going to work well for the country... I don't see a path for it to ever happen, but parties need to actually work together to pass laws that benefit the people taking into account opposing views and trying to COMPROMISE and work together. Not only will this help the country function more effectively, it will reduce the polarization of 'this side' versus 'that side', and maybe it will even help raise a generation of kids in a better manner by them seeing adults acting like adults... respectful intelligent responsible discourse, compromise, working together, focus on greatest improvements that benefit the country, etc. Unfortunately, I do not see a path for this to happen as it seems like we are getting further and further away from this ideal.

    /end 4am rant.

i'm goin on the record here.

it would be a terrible thing if china moved to take over taiwan, but it's not our business and not a valid cause for war with china, despite what the us govmnt suggests.

Here's a good background how China strong-armed Taiwan out of the United Nations in the late 60's & early 70's:

There will be war over Taiwan with China. Unless Biden just rolls over and gives it to China. Which he probably will.
Hong Kong and the Muslim genocide are precursors, along with the expansion of the South China Sea Islands.

This will also become a problem in the Arctic as we force the renewable energy issue domestically.
Norway, Greenland, Russia, Canada, the US ,and others who have energy, other natural resource rights claims, transport routes, fishing, and other claims in the Arctic will become pressure points.
So far only Russia has built the necessary nuclear fueled vessels to claim their rights in this region.

Biden will also give away everything to Palestine. It is the appeasement doctrine.
Pay your opponents in the hope that the money will get to the people.
In these regimes it never does. The Palestinian citizens have never seen a dime of the billions we have given to the PLO.

Likely, China knows Biden is weak and will trade any kind of climate thing for any aggression trade off.

^^ yeah, china is a bully, but it's not our job to prevent them from claiming taiwan. it's an internal chinese issue within their family, none of our business, not worth a war.

they're bad actors for sure, but Chang Kai-sheck ( a notoriously corrupt thief) stole billions of dollars worth of historic chinese art when he moved to taiwan.

When you realize that a basic human need is to feel you have choice and autonomy, then you know that mandates are counter productive. Real leaders help people come to good conclusions of their own free will, bad managers attempt to force people to comply.

    Tell that to those consuming horse deworming meds for COVID;
do you think they will realize it's their choice, their free will that is endangering others who are vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated against COVID?
Do political leaders who refuse to wear mask in public or vaccinate against COVID help people come to good conclusions of their own free will?
Is it free speech to promote usage of horse deworming meds for human COVID treatments as some of those media hosts with largely conservative platform or followers during pandemic? Is that also allowing people free will?
Are restrictive laws against abortions as in TX giving people the chance of free will?
How about the free will to survive through pandemic without worry of hospitals getting overwhelmed treating in case someone needs a normal life saving procedures like gallstone removal?
