Hi folks, I'm back from a 7 hour trip out on the bike and I'd noticed the pin holding the scottoiler dispenser was very loose. Closer inspection shows the dispenser has actually snapped off it's mount and was dangling precariously over the chain. I'm using this as my excuse to remove the whole thing because I've never been keen on it. Mines the touring version, now it was on the bike when I bought it so I've limited knowledge on how it was fitted. I think it's some sort of vacuum pipe that's attached to an injector potentially? What is the best way to remove it and would I need to replace any pipe work? Thanks in advance folks. Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk
Daft if me not to think of watching an installation video lol Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk
If it is a vSystem type chain oiler, be sure NOT to "just cut" the underpressure leading to the oiler's body. "Just cutting" it is a recipe for a bad running engine afterwards...
I think mine is the V system, it's for a large capacity reservoir mounted to the number plate which I think is the tiring version. I've not been out to check yet but I assume it's been cut into the vacuum pipe that leads out of the airbox, so if my thinking is right is need to replace that entire vacuum pipe. The vacuum hose will connect to an intake port under the throttle bodies, and is used to open the oil flow valve for the oiler. As long as the end of the hose is sealed off when you remove the oiler (to prevent a vacuum leak to the intake), there is no need to remove the whole hose. Any suitable tapered solid piece of material will do as a bung (e.g. a golf tee), or you could find a proper vacuum bung at an auto parts supply store.
Cheers guys, at least I know I don't need to replace that vacuum pipe then. I was thinking of just getting a cap for the scottoiler end of it but I'm sure one of the hundreds of random bolts I keep for no known reason will fit lol! Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk
