Does anyone know if there was a valid engineering reason for the shift to underseat exhausts? Seems moving that much weight up would be a bad idea. Or was there a shortage of rump roasts?

    1) Shortage of Nair caused need for Honda to burn girlfriend's and wives legs
    2) Makes sniffing of exhaust to detect rich mixture easier on backs
    3) Gives highway patrol officer somewhere to put his pen while dispensing ticket
    4) Allows for extra hours labor when replacing mufflers
    5) Allows for riders to keep take out dinner warm on way home.

Increased cornering clearance, and appearance would be the major reasons I would figure. I am not really into them as much as everybody else, mostly because of the copycat factor, and the fanny roast syndrome.

    These are great!

    How about:

    6) Gives that fresh "I-smell-like-a-SMOG-test-station" aroma to your clothing as you ride.

I must say I like all your reasons for it, quite funny. I must say with experience from it, my tail section of the bike "rear seat" does not get warm from the exhaust. The shields over the cans stay at a reasonable temp. I can touch them with my bare hand after any ride, the only time they seem to get hot is if idling around town in the middle of summer and it's 100 degrees outside. I do like the look of it though, but that's just my opinion. I did gut the cans and that removed quite a bit of wieght out of them.

    Hey wolf,

You sticking with the stockies (pipes)? Just curious.

derstuka, not sure if I'm reading this right. Are you asking if I'm keeping these, or running it this way for now then later doing aftermarket? What I ended up doing, was purchasing a set of stock pipes of a guy with an 05 for $150, then gutted those and put them on. I still have my original 04 pipes, in case I want to go back to stock. I thought about aftermarket, but couldn't justify the cost for now. So for now, I'm into the exhaust for $150 and a couple hours labor to gut it, versus $650+ for aftermarket. The money I saved, I'd probably put towards a PCIII and some new tires. Hope this answers your question.

They're sexy and it gives you more flexibility with luggage options.

I agree with SLOav8r, makes luggage very simple to deal with. My last bike had high mount single side exhaust, what a pain getting my Cortech saddle bags to hang right. Then the right side was laying on the pipe, not good. Had to make a heat shield to keep things cool on long trips. With the underseat exhaust, you forget they're there. Give's the bike a more symetric look.

Yeah, that's what I was asking Wolf. I new that you had gutted out stock exhaust, but I was wondering if you were going to keep them in the long run, or buy aftermarket. You answered that question. Thanks.

Oh, and I agree for undertail pipes making for easier luggage mounting/options.

    1. I like the under tail exhaust because of cleaner-better looking, & for clearance of the ground & bags.

    2. Not the trend anymore, most Rice Rockets are or coming out with under frame or side exit exhausts.

I sure wish my RC51 had undertail exhaust, many peoples flesh would apriciate that as well
