vfr1200 igniton key wont turn

Hi guys, can anyone help with this???

Started my bike yesterday and moved it out to wash it.
Now the key wont turn past the on position to start.
It locks goes to off and on but wont go any further. Tried the new spare key same problem.

Anyone had similar problem or know the cause?

try pushing the key down then turn

 

Ive tried pushing up and down. Sprayed WD40 inthe keyhole and blasted it with compressed air.
Still nothing.

 

so it's off the steering lock ?

 

Yep. I can lock and unlock the steering.
Key then moves to the off position.
Key moves to the on position. pump comes on and dash light up etc.
Key wont go to the ignition position to start the bike.

 

if key goes to ON position the START button should work, right ?? bikes don't start with turning the key like your car, right ?

I havent been on the bike for a few years now and dragged it out yesterday.
Must be getting Alzheimers.
