I'm back but forgot shit, and dont want a new beaten down post.

For us that have the 2014 model, what oil filter can fit and is not OEM or is Better that fits. I went to a local website and the OEM is $42 on sale, I went to Ebay with the OEM number and found it for $16 and I found the Hiflofiltro HF204 as a replacement from Chappreall in Cali for $4.99? I do remember a post that Honda uses the same filter for the Civic and don't remember the part number or year since it is super cheap and available from local car parts suppliers. Please advise ASAP. Prefer to stick with OE filter But $42 EEK that is a big rip off over here between £12 and £16 although I maybe going for Mahle (which I use on my BMW ) Part No OC575 https://catalog.mahle-aftermarket.com/eu/product.xhtml?eid=4210

 

Calsci's list good but some old info there... DO NOT get the current SuperTech, they are cheap crap. Depending if you want long or short, try Mobil 1 M1-110 or M1-108, good filters. Purolator and Bosch the same quality, Pure One not recommended for bikes due to lower flow, use the regular Purolator L14610 or L146012. If not going OEM (which should go for ~$15), I'd stick to those to keep it simple. Should be able to find them at AutoZone, Napa, etc.

 

I've been using the Hiflo for some years in all my bikes. I tend to change them at each oil change in any case. I made a mistake recently and paid a similar exorbitant price for OEM, won't do that again in a hurry.

 

I went with the HIFLO Racing filter. It was said by three shops to be reliable and a go to. The oil flow supposedly has a greater rate Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. I also am going with the Amsoil full sythetic since the Honda Pro4 full went up in price as well to $12 a quart at local shops and online at $10. $20 extra bucks oh well.

 

The Civic filter is not the same as the OEM on the VFR. The Civic filter is a little larger, and it is a fairly tight fit on the 6th gen. But they do fit and work. I have used the Civic filter for probably 10 years or more now. I just have to manipulate the coolant hoses a bit to get it in there.

I also use Bosch filters. I read somewhere long ago that Bosch exceeded OEM filters as far as filtration of impurities and contaminates from the oil. Don't ask me to verify that by quoting where I read it because I just don't remember where.

I was buying mine by the half dozen from Walmart when they went on sale and I think I only paid about 5 bucks or so each. But, I don't know how much wiggle room you have on the 8th gen for the filter to fit. The Civic filter is about an inch or better longer than the OEM.

 

been using the bosch 3300 for the 8 years i've owned my vfr... no issues. typically bought for ~$6 at local parts supplier but last time i ordered for the car off rockauto they had them for $4 ea so i grabbed a few extra

 

I can get a case of HP4 at my local dealer for $98. Don't know if it's worth it to you, but you could ask.

 

I suppose that Bosch 3300 would fit a 5th gen as well, what year or part number is that oem Civic filter?

 

At least as early as 2003 and as late as 2010, probably earlier and longer too. Filter number is 3323

 

Thanks, looks a good filter that, good bit more expensive than the HF303 I normally use. Might look in a good autofactors I know.

 

I should have validated my claim. I used the same filter on my bike for years and both my son's and wife's Civics. Matter of fact, I used the same oil on not only the bike and their cars, but also in my diesel truck. However, the truck had a much different oil filter LOL. If you want to flush your cooling system, and trying to remove the drain plug from the bottom of the motor, it is a bit of a pain in the ass with this slightly larger filter there. But it can be done.
