That's awful. I live about 20 miles from Ashland City. How would one know if the product used contains this?

as a coversation point only -

Should we also ban petrol / gasoline ?
after all the fumes can kill you, the fumes are flammable...

AS with a lot of these products using them in an enclosed space is dumb. Sadly these are the same people that smoke whilst refilling their cars...

You can't cure stupid users, only rely on Darwin.

Just searched and found an EPA list some 29 pages long of products which contain this chemical. Gunk carb cleaner, Gunk Brake Cleaner, Goof Off stripper, Zep stripper, etc. I've used several products listed but, thankfully only outdoors.

They supply material data sheets for a reason. Nobody ever reads them, until it's too late.

As the level of illiteracy in the US (and the UK) is about the same I believe, you have to remember that:

    1. reading is optional !
    2. Its always someone else's fault
    3. No win, no fee & class action...

I personally think Darwin isn't doing a fast enough job...

Yeah! At this rate it will take forever! At least 40 in 39 years? According to the article "At least 40 people died from 1976 to 2017 from exposure to paint and coating removers containing methylene chloride. The European Union banned most consumer and professional uses of the chemical in 2011." Just over one per year does not indicate to me that this is something to waste too much time on. Although I think I will be reading lables a bit closer now.

Those that didn't die possibly ended up with some degree of brain damage.

Whatever you do, don't mess with this stuff:
Epidemiology: Experimental reproductive effects have been reported.
Teratogenicity: A human teratogen, causes developmental abnormalities of the craniofacial and musculoskeletal systems, pregnancy termination and stillbirth.

I worked with a guy in his 40's back in the 70's. He had a career in an auto body shop, constantly exposed to solvents and paint, and he had breathing problems, all the little hair follicles were burned off the inside of his lungs. No brain damage that I could see, but he got winded very easily. So, if it doesn't kill you, it will hurt you.

Agreed, also knew an old painter with breathing issues. He told me that until 2 pack paint came along he would only occasionally use a respirator & also rarely change the filters as they were expensive. That being said he also smoked like a chimney.
