How 'bout this for a candidate as the World's Nastiest Master Cylinder? I think it explains why the front brakes weren't working. Oh, it isn't from my bike it's from an older Virago.

I think it's long past the bleeding point, and looks pretty much dead to me

It belongs to a friend. She has several bikes, and said the front brakes weren't working on this one. Kind of long-distance trouble-shooting since she's in Arizona and I'm in Tennessee. I told her to check the brake fluid in the master cylinder and she said, "I can't see through the sight glass, it looks all brown and cruddy." She finally got the cover off the master cylinder (one of the bolts was seized) and said, "You are NOT going to believe this!" and sent me that photo.

It looks sort of like the filling in pecan pie or something. I'm not sure what, but it sure doesn't look anything like brake fluid!
