Well. It wasn't today. Wasn't yesterday or the day before but four days ago, I spent the afternoon flushing my brake lines front and rear. The instructions in the manuals were not really clear to me. They said to put the tail end of the drain plastic tubing into good clean DOT4. That one I cold not wrap my mind around, so I reached out to old friend Chomper who explained the gravity method which is a longer process, but it worked.

It didn't. Nothing came out of the drain nipple at all. I ended up having to pump the lever to get the fluid moving and out of the system all the while watching the reservoir closely to make sure I did not introduce air into it. Did the same with the rear brake reservoir. There was a fair amount of air in the rear system.

Gave the front and back tire a spin while still up on the centre stand. Free movement there. Tried the brakes, worked good. Off the stand and a rolling brake check. Seemed good. Out for a ride to give it a good check.

Man o man I can't believe the difference that made. Prior to the fluid flush, I had to grab the lever and pull I t damned near to the handle bar before the brakes really did anything. Now the brakes work 200% better than before. I guess from now on, I wont go five years between fluid flushes. Last time this was done was my last trip down to Atascadero in 2014. I know. The shame!

Randy. Get speed bleeders for the brakes and clutch. Works wonders and makes doing the job much easier.

I am sure we put speed bleeders on it in 2014. Otherwise, I should not be able to pump the fluid through without opening and closing the bleeders without air flowing back in, correct? I only opened each bleeder once and closed them once through this process.

Added a brake led onto my helmet.. Straightforward connection to splice into the brake lights, and put the whole wiring under the rear cowl. Transmitter works by bluetooth to connect to the led on the helmet. Its all about more visibility right?

Hahaha.. I took a picture, but forgot to it upload with the post. Went out and grabbed a couple now though. Shows it much more clearly than the original one which is also attached.

The control box has two wires coming out of it, one red, one black.
The brake/tail lights have three wires; One is ground (green), one is the tail light (black/brown) and one is the brake light (green/yellow).
Red wire from control box goes to green/yellow of brake light, black wire goes to green.
Helmet unit is detachable from mounting bracket which stays permanently on helmet. Bracket comes with some sticky adhesive to attach to helmet. Helmet unit is charged via USB. No idea how often it need to be recharged and manual doesn't say. Am I missing anything else:Smile:?

P.S. Thanks to the missus for agreeing to be the pedal pusher, made it much easier to do a video.

OK, now that seems like a great idea. I like that it flashes before staying on solid. I'd be tempted to mount more than one!

What did I do today? I discovered that the water pump impeller shaft seal on my '99 5th Gen is going bad.
Immediately ordered a replacement pump assembly. The bike is already out of service for header replacement and fuel injector cleaning so why not throw in a water pump replacement? I don't feel bad about it, the water pump is original to the bike which means it's a little over 20 years old. It was time to replace it.

I treated mine like a two bit hoar from downtown east side out on the highway for an hour or so. Felt great.

Happy Birthday to my awesome incredible bike.
Took Jimmy for a blast up and down Santa Susanna pass three times for his BD present on the way home after actually pulling over, thank God on a super wide interchange from the I70 N to the I118N to snap a picture.

Out with the old... In with the "new". Fitted a Givi shield, then went for a test ride. Now there is a very quiet pocket when I lean on the tank, and I love it.

Removed the decibel killers because it sounds too tame. The sound cleared up and now it sounds like a cammed V8!
Still looking for some stainless steel pipe to fab my own dB killers.
