Here the repairs start on the body. After 5 minutes you can cut the polyall200 & glass matt with craft knife. After 10-15 minutes you can hit it with the grinder. it set fast so you have to work in small batches and get everything ready before you mix parts A and B. this just shows the first layer, I built up several layers of Polyall2000 and fibreglass matt and ground it to the correct shape. more pics to come as I finish it off and move to the upper.

 

bit of progress, I've been tied up on other things (selling off some bikes, 4 gone now). Here you see the missing section for the mirror has been re fabricated using polyall2000. basic fix is done using fibreglass matt and PolyAll, then a modelling clay mold was taken off an unbroken fairing and used to form the exact shape on the broken one. PolyAll is then poured in and left to harden. Once the clay is peeled off, I use a die grinder to remove the remaining modelling clay and rough up the PolyAll ready for glazing putty. I may prep 2 sets of bodywork for paint at the same time.

 

Slowly still plugging away at the bodywork when time permits.

I used "Plastex" for the first time last week, repaired a bunch of broken tabs etc on the seat cowl. Amazing stuff.

 

Strong effort. Nothing fits, or looks, like OEM. Especially when there are limited, to non existent, options for aftermarket.

 

getting there, lots to do to get it right. will prime the repair spots once I get one more round of surface filler and sanding done, the I can see more imperfections to sort out..

spider cracks have been v-grooved and polyall2000 used to ensure they don't come back, then they get filler.

 

bodywork is finally finished, dropped it off at my painter today, likely another week before he gets to it.

 

I've had great results with Plastex too, had to fix a couple of pretty substantial fairing cracks on my 2001 VFR.

 

Got my bodywork back today. Will get it mounted up and do the rest of the decals....looks good

 

FUCK YES!!!! Looks great. Always wanted to do a Euro reverse. Fantastic.

 

Thanks!, im pleased as punch. Its like putting icing on the cake. I cant wait to get it mounted up now. I hope I can find time this weekend, but im up to my neck in farm work at the moment.


All the strips are paint, we didn't use the tank and upper cowl decal stripes. looks better all painted the same shade of white that way. Cost me a fair $ though, it was a lot of tape work etc.

 

Needs Red Mirrors, and Im not happy with the seat, too puffy (can see the bolt passage at the rear of the tank and the solo seat won't sit flush). I may also swap out the headlight surround for one like is on the North American bike. The Euro bikes of this colour had the twin headlight and only a black grille under the light, its a bit too much black at the sides in my opinion.

huge disappointment today. First ride on the VF1000R. No Second gear. When I first ran the bike last year on the stand (winter and snow) it ran through the gears ok, but today under acceleration load it just wratcheted, had to snick it up to third gear right away. I guess she has to come apart again and this time the engine/tranny has to be torn down. Im Gutted.

here I am still smiling, this was just as I set off on the test ride. I wasnt so happy on the way back

 

looking forward to seeing the pictures from this upcoming deep-dive into the engine.

Shit. I am so sorry. That is a huge letdown after all that work. At least it will come apart nicely. How did everything else feel? I doubt you were any mood to evaluate anything else though. Trust me, I can feel your pain.

Engine ran smooth. I did notice the steering yoke slightly cocked to the right when I was riding, so ill be checking the frame over as it comes apart, it may be tweaked. I have 2 spare frames here anyway. its gotta be stripped to the bones regardless.

Well, I know how Im spending my first month of my retirement in the new year.

 

Recently suffered a similar fate. Painful is an understatement.
