Need some advice. I want to install a cruise control on my bike but not sure which one to buy. Looking for some input from some folks who have one installed. I noticed on line there appears to the NEP cruise control and Universal Vista Cruise Control.

    Thanks for the input.

I bought a Universal Vista for my '03 ACE, and looked to see if one would fit on my '07 VFR. There just isn't enough room between the grip and master cyl. to fit the Vista. IMO the bar end cruise control would be the best idea, even though it is much more expensive. On the ACE, I moved the master cyl to the left just enough to allow room for the Vista's clamp. There isn't enough room to slide the M/C over on the '07 VFR.

Hello Nenjammer. I bought and installed the NEP throttle lock on my 07 RWB VFR. Needed to shave off a little bit of plastic as well as move the rubber grip a little further out. Still, it looks and works fine. I tried the Vista, but found that it was quite a bit thicker than the NEP and would require more work to get it to fit. Good luck.

Steve, what site did you purchase the NEP Throttle lock from? By the way, jealous of VFR Hard Saddlebags!

had em both on my 05..just flip the rubber lip on the grip over the flange on the throttle tube to widen it out a bit..you might need to file off some spots on the edges so it sits square to the throttle black.....have had em on every bike i ever owned and always work perfect.......good luck!

Benjammer- I bought the NEP at our local motorcycle dealership since they let me walk out with it and play with the unit before buying. Thanks re. the saddle bags, but they cost me $$$.

Just a thought, before you try a throttle lock I suggest you try a Throttle Rocker. They were $10.00 when I bought mine. I have a bad wrist with my hand going numb after 20min or so. With the throttlerocker I did a 600km day ride a couple of weeks ago with no wrist pain. Takes a little adjustment to set up right but very easy to do. I find it a great little device and at the price its worth a try.

I had a Vista universal locker laying around, and installed it on mine when I did the heated grip install. Installation is easy, but in my experience, they make the throttle stick no matter how well you have them adjusted. I ride 170 miles (round trip) to school 4 days a week. A little more than half the ride is curvy backroads. After a few days of the throttle being stiff and sticky, I was tired of it. Took it back off in a few seconds, and now my throttle is smooth again. Unfortunately the throttle lockers that replace the bar end don't work with the heated grips.

I've had both; get the NEP. It's a throttle lock BTW not a cruise control which some folks do adapt to bikes.

I have used NEP in the past but now have a ThrottleMeister, which IMHO is superior but pricey.

    Here is their website...

Yes, Throttlemeister looks good, but expensive.
I went by the local Honda Dealer today but they only had the Vista Universal, so came home tonight and ordered the NEP version.
    Thanks for all the input.

I have the Vista Cruise installed but it takes some serious modifications to fit properly and work well. The clamping action isn't sufficient to hold the throttle and if you adjust the clamping force so it will hold, it causes friction even when released. I solved this by changing the lever ratio so that the difference between the relaxed position and clamped position is greater. This is accomplished by removing the lever and shaving material off the long edge. Don't shave material off the edge which acts as the lift or clamping cam. In addition, remove the screw assemble and grind off the threads near the eye end as they cause friction inside the assemble and tend to complicate a clean release when you want to turn the cruise off. The next issue on the sixth gen VFR is the lack of clearance between the clip on and the fuel tank. You need to reshape the lever so it will no strike the tank when the forks are turned to full right lock. After about 30 minutes of trimming and tweaking it works like a champ and looks like it belongs there too.

I've had the throttle meister and I prefer the Vista when it is installed and working properly.

Here is a side shot in the relaxed position. The side I trimmed is in contact with the upper half of the vista cruise control.

Here you can see the shape required to clear the tank.

Here you can see how tricky it is to achieve a quarter inch clearance, if that.

I don't have one on my current bike, but I have used their stuff in the past. Always works well and is a true cruise control, not a throttle lock. If you want a cruise control, go with an actual cruise control.
