Is it possible to use GP tires on the road?

Many riders in China now use GP tires for daily use on roads. Is this kind of tire safe and appropriate?

 

If you have heating blankets to keep the tires at their working temperature every time you start your journey. And if you keep pushing on the corners to keep them warm.

 

not a good idea as GP treadless tires are dangerous on wet roads and wear out fast on dry roads.

i won't use any cheap crap Chinese products on any of my bikes, including tires !

 

Agreed, only a good idea if you want to bust your ass. I left race tires on my sometimes track bike once and was fine until I got caught in the rain. Sat under an overpass for over an hour waiting for it to blow over. I recall a friend did the same thing, left them on for a memorial ride one Sat. morning. It started raining, he called his girlfriend to bring the PU truck to drag him home.

Like said above, even in the dry you have to keep them warm. Ease up and get them cold and you might get a surprise on the next corner.....

No it’s not a good idea. There will be no way of creating enough heat in them to give you any grip.

 

I believe he is saying that he agrees with NOT using GP tires...that's how I'm reading that.

Well, his location seems to be China, so maybe he's just speaking of what he's seen locally.

I've known guys around here that have used take-offs that have been used for track days. Not the same thing I know, but could be different there.

 

That's what I'm talking about but suspect GP tires are similar. Yea, I think he was agreeing not to use them too. I think he does well considering that English is likely not his first or even 2nd language.

I got free race take-offs for track days but w/o tire warmers forget it. Once hot they seem to really need to be warm to work. It was a waste for me, pay $150 for a track day and spend 1/2 of each session getting the darn tires warm. I was riding a GSXR1000 then and it would wipe out a set of $300 tires in 1000 miles on the street. I use to brag about millage to my wife but never told her about the "tire surcharge".
