I use my VFRF750 1990 now for a while and everytime when the fuel indicator lights up i refuel. But then i fuel up all the way and i see i only add 13litres of fuel. The manual says its capacity is 19 litres. Why does the indicator light up so soon? Anyone experiencing the same?

it might be possible to remove the sender from the tank and bend the float wire to correct the problem, but i'm not sure. i'd be afraid of starting a leak.

I'm guessing that is how it was designed and is supposed to be?

Light on, got about 1-2litres + reserve. You've got to switch petcock to reserve and think about refuelling.

I didn't get the logic yet on my few hasty sprints. But that would make sense to me. I had to stop on the roadside to start her up once it ran out before I switched to reserve.

on my 1997 FV I am right on the empty line on the gauge and no light is on yet, never usually run it this low and have been wondering if my light actually is working, not brave enough to run it for much longer just in case it does run out in an awkward place as sods law usually does

gens 3 and 4 don't have a "reserve" setting but depend upon the light to indicate low fuel level. you need to figure out what the distance is between light on and running out of gas.

Ah, so it seems... Euro gen3 has a big on/off/res -dial, but no fuel light, U.S. bikes come with a light, but no reserve tap.[IMG]

It is quite handy, but could be a lot better if the gauge had a reserve -line on it, or there would be a warning light.. I remembered id wrong. I probably wanted it to be so in my mind after it shut down on me on a highway. Took a while to get going after I switched to the reserve.

I'll have to measure the full, reserve, empty states next summer, so I don't have to be guessing all the time. Some places only have gas every 70-80 miles..

My gen3 petcock went TU and there are no new replacements to be found. I fabricated an adapter and installed an aftermarket petcock. It gives me about 30 miles reserve.

Always wondered what that circular cutout in my fairing was meant for.

Yeh, they "Euro-bikes" have that apparatus to switch to reserve or turn off petcock with out having to remove seat. Not really an issue, you learn how many miles you can go and just fill up. I did away with my reserve set up on my EX500 with just a simple elegant Pingel ON/OFF petcock. I replaced a VFR petcock with a factory oem one btw. AnyWhoOOoo
