Jethro is "Back" ....again!!!!!

Been on here since 2006 on and off over the years. Kinda bowed out two years back when I sold my RWB and went cold turkey for a year or more. Then last fall my wife suggested that I get a dirt bike and I didn't hesitate to drag home a basket case Honda XR650 to rebuild over the winter. That turned out really well and then last weekend I took my buddies Multistrada for the afternoon and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Here I am four days later with a 3rd gen project bike in "The Healing Room" / garage that I found in Montreal. It's rough.....real rough and it's sure to be quite a long road to recovery. Glad to be back in the saddle, stand by for some pictures and a build thread of some description!

I have been known to sleep on my bike. Usually while it is parked on the side of the road.

 

Weird how different countries treat people who just want a nap.

In France on the paid motorways there are rest stops every 20km, and once it gets dark they allow people to park up overnight and they have no issues if bikers just pitch up a lightweight tent to kip overnight. All they expect is the tent to come down at first light and the place left clear of rubbish. Sort of makes sense as that is far less nuisance for the Toll road operator than having to shut the motorway whilst they clear up yet another crash caused by someone not taking a break and falling asleep at the wheel.

Meantime in other countries people get hassled if they even think of wild camping.

 

Here in BC pitching a tent at a rest area is forbidden by law but I don't know if they would bother a biker. I suppose of a family pulled up and wanted to pitch a tent, and the pointed to the bike, the law would have to stand. Stopping other than for emergencies, is not permitted on our freeway here either, nut having worked that freeway for years, if someone was to pull over becasue he was falling asleep at the wheel or bars, then go at her. I have been awaken once that I can remember by the rumble strips while on the bike. That's when I started pulling over and having naps sitting on the bike. Guaranteed every night when I was working evening shifts back begore I was retired. I preferred that shift but just could not make it home without a nap.

 

XRRs rule ... XRLs, not so much (no offense) ...

Well there are XRs and then there are XRs. On top of that you can't ride a 650R on the road here in Ontario so we are stuck with doing what we can to the XR650L. Yes it's heavier and slow but it's all we got so we do our best with it. I've done some work to mine. oh and no offense taken!
