Valve covers , carbs etc are off. As I take the side covers off, misc “trash” falls down. Ripped grommets, rocks, whatever you think that would hide in between the “V” after all these years. Then I find this washer. I have NO idea what it’s too. Did it fall and get lost ? Is it from my clutch ? Help!

As long as you are fiddling with the micrometer, how thick is it?
Maybe it is not even from the bike. :Noidea:

Looks like a cam cover sealing gasket to me.

I found a Japanese coin in the V of my VTR!

Has the clutch cover been off recently ??

to me that looks like the thick washer that sits on the shaft behind the starter reduction gear.

i have one out of a bike and will measure it to confirm.

I’m not sure if the details show but it is a machines washer and you can see buildup inside and around the outside. I noticed the washer in the left over oil when I removed the clutch cover. This why I couldn’t tell if it was wet (falling from inside) or dry(falling from outside on top of cover) .I have looked parts diagrams and can’t seem to find anything missing.

Squirrel may have just found it! When clutch cover Was taken off the shaft went with the cover in the washer probably fell off the shaft without me even noticing it was there. I am still trying to find pictures to see if that is indeed what it is. Squirrel man If you do have dims that would be great to verify.

since you did remove clutch cover..............i'm certain we have correctly identified the washer, and it needs to be replaced on the shaft behind the gear.

    case closed :pipe:

After 28 years of owning and working on multiple VFR's, i'm pretty sure i could identify every bolt, screw, washer, nut, spring, spacer, circlip, bracket and part on a VFR at first glance !
