My top speed on my 5th Gen Yellow VFR is140mph (on the speedometer) - so It really depends on how accurate the speedometer is on the VFR. Bike was steady and felt good - I was on a smooth highway straightaway with a group of other riders. I was just trying to keep up with the group. That is my top speed on any bike I have ridden. No fish stories here either.

I had a 2000 model that went over 160 on the speedo, at 5,000 ft elevation and there was more to go, just not with me on it in a field near barbed wire fences... My 2005 has seen 147 on the speedo with saddle bags loaded with camera gear and clothing... More to go there too...

Honestly things do start to change after 120/130. Up to 115 I think these bikes ride like a car at 70 on the highway. You start seeing 135+ and at some point you must realize you are now doubling the national speed limit and everyone is going MUCH slower and the road gets very short.

I got 145mph on the clock with speedo healer verified with gps. I changed my gearing to 15/45 so I figure I can get 155-160 before the rev limiter hits. Its not the speed that scares me its a CDL and cops  that do.

Oh, no, not another size thread...

So, does anyone have visions of jail time when they're cooking along at 110+?

depends if you stop or not

btw... don't be doing your high-speed runs at night. yet another rider died near me after running into the back of an SUV. Stayed alive for two weeks before his body said enough. All those pictures of idiots hitting the back of semi's aren't photoshopped.

145mph on my 6th gen 2002 before i sold it, had a bit more left but ran out of decent road so had to slow down. Also had 145mph out of my '97 VFR 750 with a topbox on lol

Well when you live out in bumfuk near an interstate with almost no traffic and open fields all around I don't worry about it too much. On a clear day and a open shot I usually go for it.

On our ride yesterday we had a few open stretches- My 2003 with PCIII and Leo slip on, down a tooth in front- after about a mile wide open flat ground I could only muster 149 on gps. I was pissed as there was plenty of revs left just no power to pull any more- I did get to weigh me on my bike too and it was 827 loaded down and I am 300# so this holds the speed down some. I went around my buddy on his 07 speed triple at about 135 but then he caught up again. I thought I would walk away from him but was wrong.

This size thread has been going on since January and suspect as newly joined riders discover WOT it'll carry on for some time.

No, my fastest VFR indicated of 151mph, 162mph on a 'Blade was on a track and it felt great.... V

My 86 750 hit 124mph (GPS) last Thursday on County Road 5-14 in Oregon fully loaded with tank bag and Venture Pack system. I still had some roll in the throttle left. That was fast enough for me. She has 45K miles on her and still flies.

My 99 I've only gotten up to about 130 but when I had my 86 750 I got it up to roughly 165-167 and didn't really have any throttle left. That was in optimum conditions on a straight peice of highway at 3am with absolutely no traffic. The 86 was about 14yrs old when I did it.

I used to have an 86vfr700F got it up to 135mph this year (not bad for 21 year old bike). On that bike I was a little leary  because it felt like 200. Maybe thats why I don't really feel the speed on the 07, because its fn smooth and more stable feeling at vfr warp speed.

    good #'s

You guys are making me feel bad. My top speed has been 86 mph!! But I've only had my 02 for three weeks. If I come home with a speeding ticket the kids and wife well let us say it would be bad.

So I'm looking for a quiet spot now!!

Had my sixth gen on a 250 model dyno and it indicated a near linear +10% error (actual/indicated mph: 20/22, 40/45, 60/67, 80/88, 100/111). I just fitted a speedo healer and corrected it w/ a factor of -9.1%. I have stock gearing BTW.

My TL1000R is about 7-8% high...most bikes seem to be high 5-10%.

I only briefly read thru the thread and i'm not sure if anyone mentioned the speedo healer. The unit features a top-speed memory which is neat if you care to see your max speed ever hit.

145 Here on my 07 25th with what felt like plenty more to go. You got to love the 90 to 95MPH spot where the second set of valves kick in & the next thing you see in the blink of an eye is 125 and more!

My 1000F is like that. I've looked down at 120mph and the next glance shows 140mph. And from there it just keeps going til you hit redline!
