    LMAO Remember the Yamaha spoof he did with Rossi, Edwards and Spies? He was a gardener in it, might have been good practice for him.

    JL might have priced himself out of the market. I don't think there are too many people looking for such a high priced gardener!

    I wish I sucked as bad as any rider at the back of the WSBK grid! True, most production (superbike) riders struggle on MotoGP machinery, but every now and then a Hayden wins a few races or a MotoGP world championship, Edwards podiums, Spies podiums or walks away from the entire MotoGP field at Assen, or Bayliss steps into a wildcard ride and spanks everyone at Valencia. It certainly keeps it interesting, wondering who else in the production world the MotoGP stars might align for.

    At a Streets of Willow California Superbike School, Joe Roberts - Moto2 rider from California - came out and rode during the lunch break. On a stock BMW school bike he touched his elbow down and came within a second of the outright course record. He’s been finishing around 23ish place in Moto2 in 2018. World class riders are unbelievably talented.

    Rea finishing in the top 10 as a wildcard with virtually no GP seat time says a lot about his ability.
    There has been some success in WSBK to GP.

    Garry McCoy: Yamaha two-stroke winner in GPs, Ducati winner in WSB
    Troy Bayliss: Second most wins in WSB, he got his MotoGP win at Valencia as a stand-in rider
    Alex Barros: Veteran GP rider scored a win for Klaffi Honda at Imola
    John Kocinski: Champion in WSB, and a winner in 500GPs too
    Marco Lucchinelli: World Champion in GPs, and winner in WSB's early years
    Chris Vermeulen: Honda winner in WSB, Suzuki winner in MotoGP
    Pierfrancesco Chili: One-off 500 GP winner, serial WSB successes
    Max Biaggi: Race winner wherever he goes, Max has several of each
    Carlos Checa: The last man to achieve the feat, in 2008

    And Spi's did it too.... but for a short time. I think he won a GP race.

    Rumors in the article, none of which from the MotoGP paddock...

    And the list of riders; no dispute. However, the point I was making, from the articles I have read, is the bad taste in the MotoGP team's mouth from Ben Spies; that's why they call it the "Spies affect". Right or wrong, the MotoGP paddock has the impression Spies left his team hanging, and that's a cardinal sin in MotoGP... Then there's the list of riders you have there; take a look at the timelines for them. Production based riders haven't done well in the last 10+ years; so while it used to be a stepping stone, it's not at the moment.

    Now, that could all change, if a talent came up through a production based series that was undeniable, and the timing was right for a seat at a MotoGP team, and then that rider did really well; would all of a sudden change it back around, and they'd all be looking at production based series again.

    I was only relating what I was reading in various articles... Not my personal opinion. I think a great talent from a production based series should be considered - I'm just saying based on the articles I've read over the last couple years, that is currently not the norm.

    I pretty much agree with all that. It would be cool if Johnny did make the jump and do you all right, especially at his age. Sure has nothing left to prove in world superbike.

    In all honesty, I saw the article and thought the timing of it and your post was perfect, wasn't trying to knock what you said.

    I'm actually more inclined to want Rae to stay in WSBK and make new records for the next influx of riders to meet/break, kind of like what MM is doing in MotoGP. I get that sometimes riders want a new challenge and sometimes that challenge is good for them and then again, sometimes it isn't met very well...e.g. Jorge Lorenzo! Either way, I think Rae could do either series and still be a viable rider.

    Lorenzo started making this bed of his, many years ago. Always known as incredibly talented, but incredibly difficult to deal with. Suzuki doesn't want that kind of bullshit distraction inside their garage at such a critical point in their development cycle. Joan Mir will get the Suzuki ride and Lorenzo is going to sit.

    I doubt he will, but this might be a good time to do a little introspective analysis of what got him to the point that he can't get a ride. Marquez, his attitude, and his results on subpar machinery have definitely hurt his stock. I don't think he will be missed, and certainly not by me. Too many young, talented, guys in Moto2 and 3 at this point, hence too many other options with less baggage and diva tendencies. He could try to get a gig on keeping up with the Kartrashians.

    Rea would leave WSBK in a heartbeat if he could find a factory team MotoGP ride. You can be WSBK champion 10 times, but it still wouldn't add up to one MotoGP championship. Moto3 riders get more exposure than most WSBK riders. If Jorge can't even get a factory ride, Rea isn't going to get one either.

    As far as Sofuoglu...he didn't do so well when he spent a season in WSBK and Moto2....1 podium, 70 total points, 16 Starts (17th in the championship). Faired even worse when he attempted to ride superbikes...23 starts, 0 podiums and 54 total points (18th in the championship). You could level the same criticism of both he and Mat Mladin.

    Yeah Kenan could not ride the big bikes, but he sure could ride the 600's.
    I think Rea would have the upper hand over JL only because he has such a good attitude and work ethic.
