I've been thinking it's time to hang up the helmet for awhile now as I've had very little interest in riding. I MAY have burned two tankfulls in the VFR last year. About two years ago I got my old Nighthawk back, made her road worthy, and rode it last summer. I briefly got the riding feeling back and rode her all last summer, but the small flame flickered out. I put her on CL in November of all months and it was unbeliveably sold inside 24 hours. I went and looked at the new CB1100 Deluxe and liked it but the high price and lack of desire let me walk. This past February I saw an ad for the new retro Kawasaki Z900RS. Hmmm interesting I thought but I didn't persue it. Mid March while driving past a bike shop I decided to stop in. They had both colors, burgandy/orange like the original Z1 and black, in stock. The black metallic version really tripped my trigger. I went home and scoured the internet reading every article I could about it. Aimed directly at the retro CB1100 it handily beat it in every aspect. All the testers loved it except a few you could tell were die hard crotch rocket types. Since my hair on fire, knee dragging type riding days are past I looked past those. March 28th I bought the black one and I am happy riding once more. As far as I'm concerned Kawasaki hit a home run with this bike. She has freight train torque, with power seemingly everywhere in the rpm range. It's got ABS brakes, traction control, fuel gauge, temp gauge, and even a gear indicator. I love the old school look, this bike just screams ME!!!! Today I rode the ole VFR, likely for the last time, just to make sure I'm ready to sell it, and I am. She's been a great steed but it just isn't me anymore. Tomorrow I'll be turning the tag in, near 18 years to the day I brought her home. She has lots of (s)miles and love left to give. She'll make her owner very happy for many years. With a tear in my eye, I sadly say Goodbye old gal.

We all wish we could ride forever, priorities change, health issues get worse, family time becomes more important, what ever the reason, you had a good ride, 18 years is very respectable. Hope you stay a member, but we understand.

Thanks for being a part for this long. I am a Kawi man myself, but things being as such I am a Honda guy now! Have fun on the new bike. Personally I really would not have the same bike for as long as you did. My average is about 5-7yrs. Take Care!

LOL yeah, and only 28k miles too! Sold it for $3,000, a buddy from NY is flying down in a couple weeks and riding back. It's got a Zero Gravity shield, Heli Bars, Sargeant seat, and Yoshi pipe. Plus all the original parts, not sure how he'll get those home. Oh yeah and the never mounted color matched tail cowl. If something falls thru maybe I'll post i5 up here.

I'd happily buy the Heli-Bars if they were to become available for sale. Just saying :)

That sounds like a good price for you. My 98 sold for $1,800 with luggage rack, top case, LSL bars and 82,xxx miles, last fall.

If the extra parts are like mine, you'll store them a few months waiting for him to come, then give them away to OOTV and he will find someone to use them.

I wish I could ride two. Or buy one for my son. Nice looking bike, with some accessories I'd like to have on mine.
Love Y2K bikes, they just trip my trigger.
I haven't put on nearly enough miles to really get into the enjoyment range yet, far from letting go.
But then, I have only owned it 2 years.

The Kawi is now gone too. Only 1600 miles in 18 months. Helmets, jackets, etc have been packed away. For the first time since 1987 I have no bike. Maybe I’ll have another bike one day but for now no regrets on hanging it up.....
