When you get the time, check your spark plugs, if you burned that much oil, I'm sure they would be gummed up.

    To help answer request #2,
it may not hurt to address top end oiling. Although most would agree oiling isn't the actual problem, better oiling does help and along with hard facing the surfaces you already mentioned and using updated cam chain tensioner is said to cure the early vf engine problems.
Welding up the ends of the cams (as long as they have the extra oil holes along the cam surface) is one of the steps. Enlarging the restrictive banjo bolt passages (particularly the main one at the base of the cylinders that feeds both lines , is another and finally going with slightly larger higher flowing lines between the source banjo and where it goes into the head.

Links to top end oil line update, not really a traditional oil mod.

There is also more info on vf engines on the same sight such as a discussion about the various updates to the cams. IIRC if you remove everything past the rblander/ in the above link you can access several other informative articles. Some of these links should be linked to somewhere in the 1St-2ND gen forum.

I take it the Conti go tire that alot of people mention must be a radial that fits the vf750.
Or at least I severely missed the boat with previous talk of a 130/80-R18 Conti radial.
I was pretty excited to find it the even offer it in a CR version pretty much a straight track tire. I have been too afraid to search and see if or how many times it was mentioned

Always rely on alternative facts and let nothing but fear hold you back. Keep both separate. The donald said one and some old Chinese guys said the other so it can be confusing.

I got 5 minutes last night to check if the engine was definitely seized. i didn't have my key on me so i couldn't check the sensor.

Putting the bike into 5th gear on the centre stand and trying to spin the rear wheel i couldn't get it to budge in either direction.

I'll be albe to have a better look tomorrow though.

Thanks for the links DeeBee, i have found that page before but its good to see it again.

OK, i gave the engine a quick hit with the electric starter and the good news is that she still turns over.
The bad news is that she is very noisy.

I also confirmed that the oil pressure light is faulty.

Hey Can someone in the know tell me what it take to fit an engine from a later model VF1000F in to the 84 frame?

Wonder what happened with this...Did you ever swap in another motor (hopefully one of the VF1000R motors...)

I still live in hope, With finances and spare time at a minimum I haven't even been able to make room in my shed to tear down the engine and give it a good look.

I might be lucky and only require big end and journal bearings and a gasket kit.
I found a replacement motor about 300 km away but he wants top dollar for it.

Fair enough. Whatever happens, I hope you can get it back together, and back out on the road.
