what did you do to your vfr today?

To add to my steering head bearing post, I didn't use the ALL BALLS kit but rather SKF and Nachi bearings along with OEM Honda seals. These are the part numbers for the bearings I installed. The Nachi is the upper bearing and the SKF the lower. Here's where I bought them https://www.123bearing.com . Along with SKF and Nachi, they also carry Koyo, FAG, Timkin, NTN, just to name a few. Honda often uses NTN and Koyo but are usually cheaper here than from a Honda dealer. My recollection on having the two different brands was one of the bearings was not available when I got these, so I went with the two I have here. I also did the same bearings for my 01 and I believe sfdownhill's rebuild of the '02 he sold to hammerdrill (both members on VFRW)

The OEM seals were from Partzilla or local Honda shop, can't remember but can say that the pricing I got on a few other parts from the local Honda dealer (HB Honda), have been cheaper than Partzilla lately.

 

Changed plugs
changed air filter
removed crappy sub air filter
Confirmed carbs were not swapped
lubed choke assembly
Learned how to re-install those metal stacks under the air intake
Discovered where the pilot screws are

Next time, try to figure out how to adjust pilot screws (pretty small space), put tank and panels back on and then learn how to clean the brakes.

 

This past week..

• New HH pads
• Rebuilt all Calipers and bled brakes
• Installed a Custom Built Daugherty rear shock
• New Tires
• New chain and Sprockets
• New Barnett Clutch plates
• Changed plugs, Oil, new air filter

She is PREEEEEMOOOOO!

 

So a few days ago I got around to extend the Voltmeter's cables and combine it with a pigtail, today I put in the battery again and added the Voltmeter.


The "mount", although somewhat "tentative" is also quite rigid and seems to hold well enough. Might leave it untouched until I got a better idea on how to mount it^^

 

Took the cover off, filled the tank, waxed and polished her, took a few steps back to admire her, then put the cover back on and went inside.

Tossed on the new pipes today. Man just can't get over how sexy this bitch is and now she sounds cleaner.

I spent most of last evening covered in dirt and oil. That's right, it was valve check night! I thought that as my 99 has just celebrated her 100,000km birthday she deserved some TLC, so it was off with the fairing and down on my knees for some groveling. As far as I can recall this is the second time that I've done this, and at least 20,000km since the first check. I had to swap out one rear intake shim, two rear exhaust shims and one front exhaust shim, as these had opened out above the tolerance limit. The rest of the valves were in spec. I can't believe how grubby my engine is, it used to be clean but I have been riding in all weathers, and it is a bit nasty compared to how pristine the outside of the bike looks. I'm planning on buying some bike-specific cleaner and giving it a good scrubbing before buttoning it back together. I will finish this maintenance round with a starter valve synch and air-filter clean. Still better than sitting on the couch watching TV!

 

I spent part of the day respraying my fairings. The red didn't hide the repairs, so it was a trip to Lowe's to get grey and more red. The grey easily covered the repairs and now I can respray the red.

Although, I'm kind of digging this grey. Maybe I should keep it, except I have clear Stomp Grip on a red tank, and I'm not sure I want to toss $50 for a black set.


Had to pay the puppy tax.

 

Took it for a spin.

 

I drooled over mine in anticipation of riding it this weekend.

lol, yes I have the SUPER VTEC, only uses 1 valve per cylinder until you hit 16,ooo rpm's.

 

I moved my license plate from the rear of the bike to underneath. The bracket that was on the bike when I bought it hung down and flexed a lot; that bracket was falling apart as from time to time, my license plate would hit my Tire. I ordered a new license plate surround off of eBay that included Lights (vs 2 separate LED's screws that I had). My initial thought was to repair the current bracket and re-use it but then I began to analyze and study the entire rear of the VFR and other possible mounting locations. This is what I came up with:

I fitted a pair of Oxford hot grips, on what was probably the warmest day of the year so far.

 

I've got Hot Grips on two of my bikes, the VFR install has never given any problems, but I had an intermittent fault on my ST1100. On investigation one of the Oxford-supplied 2-pin plugs was a sloppy fit and the pins weren't making steady contact. Easily tweaked with pliers and faultless now.

It hit 56 degress today so I cleaned out the garage to give the girl some fresh air, and took her out for a leg stretching. We hit the market for a reward afterward! Gotta love a tank bag that holds a 12pk bottles or a helmet! ;-)
