Fitting a powerbronze hugger.

    I bought the powerbronze hugger recently and fitted it today. It looked relatively simple from the instructions, but as usual it was not. So I thought a wee "how to" may be helpful for anyone else buying this.

    I bought the white with gold mesh as I have gold levers. It's pretty much on a par size wise with the hugger Honda do for the 8th gen, bit much nicer imho.

    Kit contents;
    1 hugger shell
    1 bracket
    3 grommets
    3 spacers
    5 m6 x 16 screws

    Push the 3 grommets into the holes in the hugger and insert the 3 spacers.

    Then I cleaned up the swingarm.

    Next you have to remove the two rearmost plastic covers on the swingarm.

    This reveals two holes that the bracket will screw onto. It is fairly difficult to get access, I used an allen bit with a socket then tightened them up with a key.

    The instructions tell you to fit the bracket 1st and leave it loose, I fully tightened the bracket as I had no extra pair of hands to hold the hugger in place whilst attaching to the bracket, in hindsight it may have been easier to attach hugger by the lowest screw first before attaching the bracket to the swingarm.
    I found once again access was a problem and getting the lower screw through the hugger into the bracket was a total PITA (hence why it may be better to attach the hugger to the bracket first.) In the end I simply used a longer screw and it was a dawdle.

    I bought the genuine Honda rear tyre hugger, It was a bit fiddly to tighten the Allen screws on the swingarm, but I got it done in about 20 minutes. Like yours, it looks pretty good.

    Thanks for that Phil, this is the first time I've been on the site for about a year I think. Glad this may be of some help to you.

    By coincidence I fitted a hugger to my Z1000SX yesterday and it was more of a PITA than this one was to do.

    How do you find the Z1000SX? I have been admiring the new 2020 ”Ninja” 1000SX. Has everything I want apart from a V4 motor and a Honda badge (have owned two Kawasaki’s and loved them) 4D4EDE2F-90F8-4CBC-AEAA-593658AC0D05.png

    I'm also a Kawasaki guy (Sssh). I sold a ZX10R to buy the VFR as my GF wanted to go pillion.
    She lost interest last year, the VFR was at the end of its finance term so I was in a good position to change.
    Almost bought a 2019 Fireblade, but at 56 decided I didn't want to go back to such an extreme riding position.

    I liked the VFR, but to me the Z1000SX is the far better bike. I missed the power of the ZX10R, the VFR was 70hp down on it. The Z1000SX being 140hp is a perfect compromise. It is more comfortable than the VFR was, for me anyway (I had to put bar risers on the VFR) and obviously a lot quicker. I'm no Rossi, but it handles as well as the VFR, in fact if pushed I would say better. The Z1000SX is also lighter.

    I quite fancy the 2020 Ninja, but I've just put a hugger, heated grips, rad guard, tail tidy on mine, so it will be staying a couple of years.

    Thanks for the reply Nelix. I must admit I am sorely tempted by the Ninja ( I am sure you are aware but Kawasaki renamed the Z1000SX to the Ninja 1000SX for 2020) but I would so miss the V4 engine and the VFR overall. I believe Ducati is going to release a V4 Multistrada and I am going to wait to see that, although I expect it will be very expensive. Also my nearest Ducati dealer is 340km away. If only Honda would release a 1000cc VFR with all the bells and whistles. (If I buy another bike they probably will) How does your GF find the seat on long rides? You are lucky to have some very good motorcycle roads near you, I am originally from Skipton in Yorkshire but have been in Oz for 50 years. I’m a little older than you at 61 so I need a little more comfort as well. Sad to see the UK suffering so much from COVID stay well and safe riding.
