shirmik: Hi all, have just got my 86 interceptor back together and fired up. Motor was taken out of the bike and only the cam covers were removed and new gaskets installed. There are four holes in the sides of the heads(one per cylinder) and oil is pouring out while bike is running. These holes are about 30 mm deep and look like holes created during the moulding process. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to why oil should come out of these holes. Coming out of all 4. Not familiar with that motor, but someone will be. Did you have any hardware left over after the work you did?
you're probably seeing the cross-drilled holes that drain the sparkplug wells. gasket must be leaking
Yep, that looks like the problem. Can see a small amount of oil in the two rear spark plug holes. Going to be a pain to get to the front cover though!! And I'm sure I used silicone sealant as well when putting it back together. Oh well, s$&t happens.
You da man Sq. I am sure there are very few people these days with the older bikes that one can call on for help. Hope you get to the end of this Shirmik. Squirrelman is a treasure chest of advice on these older bikes.
Before pulling it all apart, why not try putting a garden hose washer under the head of each bolt and tight them down again. This is a trick from the old V65-V45 days. Cheers, Glenn
