Took mine to the local dealer to have the oil pipe recall done. 14 years old, and the 4th owner, no problem Sir. Coffee while you wait? Big, big shout out to Sutton motorcycles in Tamworth, UK, great service.

Rode to Duke's in Malibu via a twisty route and had Thanksgiving dinner with the wife. This is our 4th year doing this and it looks like it will be our tradition for a while, at least that's how we see it happening for a while. Great weather for riding too, if not too hot. It was in the 80's in Malibu and even hotter where we live.

I spent time on the 5 Gen again, this time did a little more to ensure no more coolant issues. Last outing, bike started leaking coolant at the water pump! Considering that the bike is 16 years old and that the previous owner(s) most likely didn't do it, I decided to replace the thermostat too. While I was at it, I went an ordered some silicon coolant lines. I bought these from a place in the UK called AS3 Performance. Their 5 Gen kit comes with 13 hoses and cost about $135 plus shipping. I also grabbed their stainless steel hose clamp kit, as I didn't want to reuse the old hose clamps, mostly because I didn't know the O.D. of the new hoses and didn't want to find out the OEM ones wouldn't work!

Anyway, if anyone doesn't know, getting to the thermostat on the 5 and 6 Gens is kind of a process but more soe on the 5 Gen! Man is that PITA!

Here's some pic of the install.

Getting these back onto the air box was a royal PITA!

Yeah, not much room to get to this area to get the stuff above installed!

Ironically you really don't get to see much of the color with the body panels on. I went with blue just to have something different than black and I think I have enough red on the bike with the colored brake lines.

AS3 had Blue, Red and Black and all were the same price, so color didn't make any difference. I though of grabbing Samco hoses in white, as this would go along with the current theme, but Samco lines are $$$ and I couldn't find the white hoses in stock the last time I checked. I also wish they had all of the hoses as there are a few smaller diameter hoses that they don't provide (see the 5th picture). Not a big deal but would be cool to have ALL the lines replaced with the same type of hoses.

Very cheap, can't believe nobody pick it up on Fleabay.
    It is red ATM.
Not sure, I'm thinking of going the same colour as the 8G, or a very dark grey, or black with a patch of red.
    Open to ideas.
I have a spare front wheel, so I'll do them both.

So, since before I bought my 99, the clutch would slip while it was cold. I replaced the fiber discs and springs with a set from EBC. Still did it. Also, if the bike sat for a while, I noticed that the transmission would get kind of locked up and I had to rock it a little to get it to roll while in gear with the clutch in, and if I tried starting it in gear with the clutch in, it would lurch a little.

Now I know why. My clutch slave piston is obviously the original. This is after cleaning it, which meant a purple degreaser and a scouring pad. Time for a new one. It was pretty brown before I cleaned it. Looks like I need to clean the rest of the assembly too. While I was using the clutch lever to push it out, it was actually stuck in there a little. I applied a little more pressure and it freed up, with kind of a pop. The crud and pitting were kind of wedging it in.
