Rank helmets, full face for the street is Shoei still the king??

i started asking a question about the RF1000 versus the RFZ and some guys says he is done with Shoei and swears by Arai Quantum 2

If i was looking for a Helmet, what are the best in your opinion and then split the group into price range, like over $400 and under $400 would be great

where i live a Shoei RFZ is between $409 and $499 and the RF1000 is between $499 and $599

i was looking at a Zox for $150 thinking i can get a lid and a coat for the price of an RF1000

can i get some feedbacks on the helmets everyone is using and their opinions and don't forget to add the price they paid for their own helmets is much appreciated

i have to buy next week, i am using my buddies RF800 right now

I have a head shaped liked Adam Sandler "Egg Head". So Shoei's have fit me well. In January 2007 I bought an RF1000 in Axis Yellow, size medium.

For me it is truly the best helmet I have ever owned in fit, weight, noise, etc. I love my RF!

But this is my opinion, helmets are like What oil do you use??? Try it on, that's all I can say. A friend of mine has an Arai, and she loves it! Also, get sized for your helmet at a dealer then order it off the internet. You'll save big$$$. My helmet retailed for $420.00 at a shop; I got it for $320.00!

I've been riding with 2 Scorpion EXO 700 series helmets. They are DOT & Snell approved. Have a fog free screens that REALLY work. Removable KwikWick liner that can be thrown in the washing machine which is great after a multiday hot ride. I find them very comfortable, light and quite. But like Bubba says, it's like what oil you use.

I plan on getting a new EXO1000 model for next years season.

 

With helmets, it matters not what brand one prefers. It only matters what brand fits one's noggin. $650 Shoei fits you pretty good but a $100 Z1R fits you better? Buy the Z1R. Fit should be the only factor in selecting a helmet.

Try on EVERY helmet in your local dealer, twice. You'll know within seconds if a particular helmet is in the running or not. For example, Icon & Suomy helmets hurt my head just trying to get them on. Arai fits me like a dream so that's what I go with. I used a Quantum for years & only had minor comfort issues. I switched to a RX7 & now it feel like they made the helmet just for my cranium.

I had always had Arai and loved them until they changed the quantum model and they no longer fit me. Tried on an Rf1000 and loved it, truly the most comfortable helmet(and lightest) I have ever owned. I also thought the Shark RSRs were very comfortable, the scorpion helmets are amazingly good for the price tag. I would buy another RF1000 in a heartbeat.

 

Go to the local dealer. Try all the helmets on. Narrow it down to 2 if you can.

Do the same for the finalists:
Put it on, strap it up. raise, lower the face shield. Walk around with the shield down. Can you pull it off your head? Could your ex wife pull it off your head? (if so it is too loose) Leave it on for five whole minutes. Take it off and wait before trying the next one... like the bread between wine tastings.

don't look at the colors, the graphics, the vents or any of that until you know what brand and type of helmet best fits your head. After you made up your mind you can then figure out what other helmets the manufactures makes with the same shape, color, graphics. If you get a solid color fiberglass lid, you can get an airtist type to paint it for you... becareful if you paint a plastic lid as the paint might weaken the plastic.

I've found that my local dealer will match the price online, I just need to show them the website. If they don't have it, they'll get it. I pay sales tax, but they will exchange it etc... besides, they just provide the helmets for me to try on.

The time you take to get the right fitting helmet will be well spent.

I've got the Arai RX-7 Nicky Haden Laguna Seca. The vents do pull air better than any helmet I've worn, but it is loud, esp. on windy days.

 

I'm with KC-10 FE, Go with what fits YOU the best. I tried on every lid I could get my hands on and the Shark RSR ended up being the one. It's almost funny you try on a lot of helmets that fit ok and then you'll try one on and it's like they used your head for the model. Good luck and let everyone know what you decide on.

Couldn't agree more, i'm a Shoei man myself and have an XR1000 lid which fits me like a glove (glove on head?). I like Arai lids as well but find them expensive but that's just me. Over 30mph your in the lap of the gods anyway so get a lid that fits and is comfortable.

I've had my XR1000 since early '04 and wouldn't swap with anything else.

Went for a size that felt fractionally tight (medium) and it broke in to be perfect after about 6 weeks or so. What the XR does better than any helmet before is no buffeting at speed or even in very gusty conditions and is relatively quiet even slightly more so with chin guard in place...

 

Took me 1 ride to get use to the chin guard and will keep it. :smile:

 

While it's great on commute or half day fun rides have found two negative's with the chin guard:

First, on cold frosty mornings the inside of the visor fogs a little more than without.

and

Second, when on tour cannot suck water from my Hydropack hose while riding so tend to leave off.

I have the Nolan Modular 100e (3 years old) and the AGV Modular Migilia (bought this year). The Nolan is ok - Kinda heavy and fogs easily. The AGV Migilia fits good but is a really cheap helmet (screw came loose and had to be replaced, also had to replace the visor), but the helmet has good ventilation, is not very heavy and does not fog up. I bought the AGV helmet this year to replace the Nolan and I am just not happy with AGV quality of their low-end helmet. I will probably put the old Nolan helmet to rest and get a new Nolan 102e and keep the AGV as a spare/passenger helmet. I want to check out the Scorpion helmets - I like the look of the Crackhead helmet, but not the name. Can anyone recommend a good Modular helmet that has good ventilation and does not fog up?

 

I wore an RF800 for years and loved it. I replaced it after whacking it on a gravel shoulder during a crash. It did it's job in my crash and I am now sold on Shoei helmets.

The replacement was an RF1000, and to me it's even more comfortable than the RF800.

If the RF800 fits you well, the RF1000 should feel good to you. Of course, as others have said, try them on at a dealership, and then order online. Unless of course, you can afford to support your local dealership by paying their big markups.

This is the reason you need an XR1000, comes with a built in anti fog shield so no misting up. I second the comment on you shouldn't be drinking and riding, but then i used to be an instructor.

What's with the chin guard as well, what the hell is that? I know i can't remove mine as it's all one piece unless you guys are talking about flip up helmets, which are heavy and noisy as hell lol
