For anyone in the North Bay area near the fires, I hope you and your families are safe and well. Though I live right in the "middle" of it, at this point I don't think it's unlikely it will get to my area of town.

I've opened my garage up to friends on FB for those needing to put their bike somewhere instead of hoping it is alive after leaving it.

Hope everyone comes through it ok.

Crazy! Almost every section of California is on fire, North, South, Central... I know a couple of OC riders who had to evacuate their homes in Anaheim Hills, plus I have some friends and family up North who, fortunately, aren't in the path at the moment. Hopefully everyone, rider or not, can be spared destruction of their property. That's a tall ask but let's hope the winds and weather start to cooperate with the fire fighters.

The Orange County Fairgrounds and the Los Alamitos Racetrack have opened their doors to those who have large animals as a place to keep them.

Woke up at 3am to howling winds and the smell of smoke, didn't find out why till the morning news. I live 50 miles away on the other side of the water. 50-60 mph winds took a 200 acre fire and turned into multiple large fires within 2 hours. Santa Rose is devastated. CA gets what are called Santa Ana winds this time of the year where winds change from mild off-shore to high dry winds from the east.

Amazing. Not in a good way either. Hope everyone stays safe and don't suffer any serious losses.

That pic is definitely making it's way around the net as it really shows what this fire is doing. But it reminds me that what I thought would be a buffer before it can get to my place, isn't a buffer at all, but fuel.

Winds are supposed to be blowing south today, so the Nuns fire (the fire near me) shouldn't get closer and hopefully stay in hills where there are less houses.

It has for sure. With earthquakes, hurricanes up the ying yang, tornados and of course fires cause by lightning strikes. Then there are the far more frequent fires caused by negligent humans that cause so much suffering destruction and even death.

No news on the cause yet, smoke in our area is worst so far and winds predicted to pick up today and tonight.

    Stay safe JimFife777

The wind is the main problem, fire storms are very dangerous.

Heard that, the report on Monday was that the OC fire was moving at a rate of 35 MPH! Kind of hard to keep that at bay.

35 mph! That will jump over huge highways, the air itself is igniting.

Yeah, not sure who gave the information but that's what was reported. It definitely spread fast and took a lot property with it, not as much as Northern California but enough that there was several home owners with nothing left. One friend was lucky his home was spared but he said his house was full of ash and the entire place smelled like smoke. Going to take a while to get back to normal I imagine.

I really hope that the victims of these fires do not get victimized yet again and be raped by the insurance companies.

    Or looters.

A whole neighborhood toasted I guess.
Flatlands in town are not usually designated Severe Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
I wonder if this one (these?) were so designated by CalFire.

7 major fires with practically 0% containment. Combination of unpredictable winds, low humidity. CalFire focusing saving people first, huge amounts of smoke making flying difficult. The entire south bay very smokey, can hardly see more than 1/2 mile. 21 deaths, 170,000 acres burned

Wow, what a loss! To all of you in California, stay safe! I'm praying for all of you. Living in Utah we are all waiting for the "Big One" on the Wasatch Fault. Been dormant for way to long and goes threw most of populated Utah. In my youth I used to make fun of the LDS church asking members to have 2 yrs of food storage, water and supplies. Makes a hell of a lot of sense with an earthquake and lots of open areas to put it. Fire in a suburb is a different scenario all together! If you are running, you can only carry so much and that would be your family, pets and the clothes on your back. Wow. So sorry!

What the vast majority of people do not pack in their earthquake preparedness pack is money. Food, water and daily necessities for sure are important but you can buy just about anything you need after a disastrous earthquake if you have cash. Forget about accessing banks, credit or debit card advantages for a quite a while after a bi quake. Infrastructure needs to be re-established before any of that can happen.

Randy is right, same problem in Puerto Rico, infrastructure demolished (what was left), no ATMs, not enough cash on the island, had to fly more money into the banks.
