Hello I'm not very mechanically skilled in motorcycles and I'm pretty new to riding but I need some help. I have to leave the choke on and adjust it to ride and not kill the engine, I was reading on other forums that this could be because of clogged jets in the carb, if this is correct is there a way to clear the jets without taking the carbs off? It probably needs a whole carb clean but I lack the skills and experience to clean them by myself, is there something that I could do that will at least help me till I get payed to take it to a shop?

You can try adding some commercially available fuel system cleaner to the fuel tank; you may just get lucky.

The problem is the jets that are clogged won't flow any of this liquid, so the clog won't magically dissolve. If you had jets that were slightly but not fully clogged, the result would be better.

Most likely, your low speed jets will be blocked solid with fuel residues, these are the finest jets in the carb (wouldn't you know it) and are what delivers the fuel at idle and small throttle openings.

All you need to do is drain the floatbowls and remove them, the jets are then easily removed without further surgery. You should take the carbs off as a set, DO NOT try and separate them. Do not mess with the mixture screws unless you have to, or if you do, make a good record of their set position (number of turns to bottomed out) so you can put them back the same way.

Get a can of carb cleaner and some very fine wire (apparently guitar strings are great) but don't go reaming the jets out as they are soft-ish brass.

    Here's a link to the service manual: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lkc7dmwyi509h0b/vfr750f RC36 service.pdf?dl=0

And another link to the ST1100 owners page for a carb clean, your carbs will be mostly the same and this will give a good visual guide for what you will be in to. http://www.st-riders.net/index.php?topic=10249.0

Have you tried adjusting your idle speed?
