i read in the manual that to adjust the preload, just use the spanner wrench and extension to the desired setting. Am I missing someing? When I try this, the wrench feels like it is going to bend or break. I am doing this unloaded on a stand. Should I take it off the stand? Just manhandle it over?
Yes, it is the correct spanner.
    Any help would be appreciated.
It is not a dlx btw.
    Thx,
    Troy

Hmmmm, I do not have an 8th gen, but I assume (since yours is not the DLX) it is the same as the 5th and 6th adjustment. Also assuming that your preload is not already bottomed out, I would make sure that you have adequate leverage. I remember the first time I adjusted my 5th gen it was a tad stiff. I then put a piece of pipe on the wrench and it moved as easy as pie, and was easy ever after. Could be as easy as that.

BTW, here is some info for ya to take a gander at.

    Great link, ty!
I wil just pull harder I guess. It almost seems like the wrench doesn't have a good purchase. It fits over the tabs nicely, but when I twist, it will ride up on one side trying to slip off. Just want to make sure I do not need to do anything different before I Hulk it.

Hard to tell from over here boss, but if it is slipping off that easy, something is amiss. Technique perhaps?

Are you turning it the correct way and using the suspension wrench and not the chain adjuster tool.

Rear preload adjuster wrench is circled in red (was for 5th and 6th anyway). The chain adjuster (spanner) wrench is to the left of it.

    Yea, def the correct wrench.
    Got it done.
It was just a bit tight the first time. A bit easier now.
When the wrench goes over the pegs, then down into place ready to turn, it just has a bunch of slop. Toward the softer position is a bit sloppier than the other direction. Just not very close tolerances with this tool. I kept 1 hand on the top of tool at the spring and turned the handle with my other hand. Pretty easy to do, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a step and brake something!
Another quick Q. It there a rebound setting on this rear (or front) that I am missing on my non dlx viffer?
    Thanks!

You must have posted as I was posting!
Mine lookes way diff than that. The chain spanner is the same, but the spring one is not even close. Mine actually goes over the top of the rail around the spring and slides down over 2 teeth/tabs at a time. I will have to post a pic of it when I get back out to the garage.
Thanks a taking the time to snap a pic of yours!

Again, I do not have an 8th gen (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), however, on 5th and 6th gens, the rear had preload and rebound adjustment. I would be surprised if they dropped that for the 8th gen non-DLX.

8th gen preload adjuster could differ from that pic, I just wanted you to have an understanding of what not to use (i.e. the spanner wrench). Hopefully, someone with an actual 8th gen will post up.

image.jpeg Stuka, is this possibly the screw I am looking for? It is a knob located under the seat on the left near where the clutch line goes into the clutch. In fact, it is tethered to that line. Hoping to soften this girl up a bit.

That's the tickover screw in the pic

On the 8th gen Dlx the rear preload is remote, on the left near the pillion peg

Never heard "tickover screw" before. Is that the idle adjustment screw?

He does not have a DLX, just a standard 8th gen. He found the preload and adjusted it, however he is now looking for the rebound adjustment (what he thought was in the pic) for the rear shock. I was hoping someone with an 8th would chime in on how to adjust the rebound.

Never heard of a tickover screw either. Is this the idle, or rebound possibly?

    Yes idle adjustment

The rebound adjustment on the 8th gen is a screw on the base of the shock, as per manual, have a look, my manual is for the DLX which is we get so never seen anything different

    Perfect!
I read that page in the manual, but did not see the adjuster visually. The pic above shows it clearly. I will have to out and check mine again. Ms be there!
    Thanks guys!
The pic I posted is the idle then? I thought I had to access it through a hole in the frame per the manual. Mine sits at 1500 right not. Was planning on readjusting it down to 1250 arou

Be strong young Jedi! You'll have to crank on it harder than you think lol. I asked my sales guy to set the suspension on the beautiful interceptor to my weight. I just cranked it up a notch a couple weeks ago in hopes to make it more sporty. It did, however I prefer it on the setting from the dealer the way I received it.
