My VFR 750 tank needs repainting and rust removing.

Near me is this company: http://www.paint-strip.co.uk/

Anyone ever had something like this done? I like the idea of all the tatty paint/rust/petrol gunge being taken off in one go.

my father in law had his Austin Healey dipped prior to him rebuilding it did a fantastic job no rust left at all,it was left as a rust free chassis and where the rust was it was easy for repair sections to be cut in and welded, would love to get my VW camper done but cannot afford it

Sounds like a chemical paint strip/de-rust is well worth doing.

    Thanks for the link.

I had my radiator vapour blasted and it came up like new.

A chemical strip/de-rust looks promising because it gets right in to the most inaccessible parts hidden in the tank. Beats the hassle of messing with vinegar or pool cleaning acids in the garden?

    What do you reckon?

the finish is left as what modern cars have before painting,I think there was a 10 year warranty on it, some works rally cars got sent there to have all the paint and seam sealer removed prior to welding the roll cages etc

Well, if you speak with this guy in the US who does this, I am sure he will give you an earful of knowledge, as well as the best way to proceed. He also first uses chemicals to clean (well, there are several steps) before vapor blasting at the end.

Shhheeeeeet, I just re-read your thread. I was thinking you were cleaning engine parts. Reading comprehension, FAIL. Disregard my posts. Imma go back to my coloring book.
