My 1881 mile journey.

Just got back from my journey.
Stole a leftover '14 for $5399 with now fees whatsoever! Flew from Orlando Friday morning to Denver (Sun Enterprises) and signed the papers. Was on the road by noon local. Put in 680 miles and found a hotel in Kansas City. Saturday put in another 850 miles and stopped just south of Atlanta. Finished today and totalled 1881 miles in almost 30 hours total including stops...about 28 hours seat time. I averaged from 40.8 to 50.7. Got better as the rings set.
Had a great ride. I will give a short review of things I like and dislike of the gen 8. I currently ride a M109R and a modified '13 Busa for referrence. I sold my '06 vfr 3 years ago btw.
1- don't ever go from a Busa to an 800 and think you'll be happy with the throttle! I actually think it is a bit slower than my 06, but that might just be because I have not ridden anything other than my 2 listed bikes for 2 years. I did not buy this for speed, but rather a good bike to just tool around on.
2- the riding position is actually very comfy. I am 6'2", 215#, with a 34" inseam. I thought I would want risers, but I think these are fine. The seat is the best oem seat I have ever sat on by far. Had a Sargent on my 06, but I think I will stay with this one. The windscreen is perfect too. Great when tucking, and also when upright.
3- this thing sure does track. It seams to wonder a bunch. Maybe the tires??? Maybe it will be helpfull in cornering?! Time will tell.
4- the stock shock setting sure is harsh. Damn. This is the hardest setting I have ever seen. I will adjust the rear when I change oil tomorrow for sure. I hope I can soften it up with only the rear! I about lost my fillings on most of the roads in Kansas!
5- the dash is very nice and pretty easy to read most all time. High sun, it is tough to read the right side stuff...a bit tough for my old man eyes maybe! All in all, a great cluster.
6- the brakes are actually very good. Much better than my 06. 1 panic stop went very well.
7- the mirrors are very good. I have wide shoulders so any oem mirrors are a bit narrow for me. These are not too bad. I thought the funky shape was goofy at first, but in a tuck, u actually use the little cut out to see. I like that.
8- the head light is amazing to say the least. A million times better than my HIDs on my other bikes. Great low beam, and silly high beams. I love them!
9- the clutch and tranny is butter. Typical Honda.
10- there is a bad buzzing right at 4500 rpm., plus or minus 250 rpm. Makes 65 mph no fun at all. I found myself downshifting when at that speed so I would not hang out in that range.
All in all, this bike is awesome! It rides very nice. It sounds great, and looks terrific.don't shoot me, but it really does have a Ducati Panigale look to it (all but the "X" in the headlight!). Fit and finish is superb.
I think the biggest problem Honda ran into with this thing was timing (too many competitors at launch) and it's price point. I would not pay $12,500 for this with whats out there. $5400...absofuckinglutely!
Again, these are just one person's view of the new vfr, but I thought I would share them. All the negatives are not meant to piss anyone off...I really do love this bike.
Fwiw, when I added this to my (Allstate) insurance, my total premium went down $40 a year!!! Yes, really!
I adjusted the chain while on the road and was happy to see that my tool kit had both spanner wrenches, a 2 sided boxed end wrench, allen wrench, and a screwdriver. Everything I needed to perform a bit o surgery in the parking lot!
The only thing I plan to add to this girl is a tank pad and more gas!

Wow no cops followed you home? you stole it.. Nice write up. Though I know timing was everything, but I would have changed the oil in Kansas. Then again when I got home, but other than that, you did good. Was this a standard?

 

Yea, I def hear ya on the oil changes. I really wanted to change it on the road. Problem was that anything between 400 and 1000 miles could not do it on a friday eve or sat at all. I even had to really hunt for a hotel...Sturgis was going on and bilions of bikers everywhere! Called a couple places, but no joy. Most places closed sunday once I was far enough away from the chaos. Just decided to baby her. I was under a time from to get home too.
The oil actually looked very good when I dropped it yesterday. I was expecting tar with metal flakes!

YOU FU..... paid how much? So do you mind adding in all of the gas, flight, hotels, food etc. so I feel better about buying my from my local dealer?! So you did not change your oil for 1800 miles and I over filled mine with .3 Quarts for 200 miles. I wonder which or if any will have an effect on the engine? I sincerely hope neither of us feels any effects. I keep thinking that I did some damage. Safe riding to you Troy!

Well, gas was about$100, flight was free (pilot here!), hotels were about $175, and food was about$100... About $375! Could have shipped it for just over $700, but was looking forward to the journey.
Don't think u hurt it with the overfill. Usually that will just make it blow out a breather and make a mess.
