Air temp sensor? Where does it really go?

I bought a used 2007 VFR800A and I am in the process of changing out the fairings. I am also trying to get my head around some of the stuff that was done to this bike as well as how it was stock.

I assume this is an air temp sensor. It seems to attach to the instrument panel. I also assume the person did this to get a better reading.

If this is the air temp sensor should I really drill into my new fairings and mount it here or does it mount somewhere else?

If it isn't the air temp sensor, what might I be looking at?

    Thanks,
    Bryson

Thanks for confirming that is the air temperature sensor and that is where it goes. I know that seems like a dumb question, but the fairings are so bad that it looked like a custom mounting location and I didn't know where it really really got mounted to.

On 5th gens it installs on the right front inner fairing cowling; check a parts diagram if in doubt, and definitely buy a factory shop manual. They're great for this sort of thing.

I do need to get a service manual. Is there one in particular that you recommend?

There is a downloadable 2002 VFR Service Manual available over at VFR Discussion. If it is not there, or you can't find it, send me a private conversation with your postal addy and I will burn you a copy along with the owner's manual. I do this really cheap. Free shipping. Do a favor for someone else and we will be even. It is too large a file to send via email.
