    Hi,
I have recently acquired from my nephew a Vfr 800 2000 model with 29,000 on the clock and aftermarket exhaust.
The bike does not have any mapping or tunning for this exhaust and it pop and farts under accelleration and has a struggle between 4-5k revs.
I use bike for general commuting and a bit of fun on weekend but do i need to get bike mapped? Or is this just common for aftermarket exhausts?

Congratulations on a very fine ride. Adding an end can alone shouldn't produce those symptoms. My stock '00 has a Staintune can and runs pinsharp perfect. Sounds like a tune-up issue to me; has it been fully serviced, with attention paid to spark plugs, air cleaner, fuel filter, starter valve sync, etc.? I think a full service should put it right. Prolly 400 quid.

Someone will be along shortly to suggest spending lots on various modifications; my advice is to spend less on a full service, as you'll have certainty that everything runs as it should with any issues addressed. Remember flushing brake and fork fluid, too. She's an older girl at 17. This is your proper baseline, anyway.

No, there should be no popping and farting under acceleration nor should it struggle at 4000rpm.
An aftermarket exhaust would not do this.
Vacuum leak, bad coil or lead, bad plug, dirty filter, any of theses things could do what you describe.
I'm a great believer on replacing every fluid and filter, and adjusting everything when I buy a new bike, no matter what the previous owner has done, that way you have a reference point to start from.

Cheers for the feedback guys :).
The bike is a treat to look at but the popping takes the shine off the ride, popping, farting is under decelleration not accelleration, typo on my part :p
New fluids and sparks (iridium ix ngk) all gapped, have not check hoses.
Was considering flapper mod/pair mod as apparently it might and the issue?
Exhaust is a delkevic full system with stubby can :) Louuud...neighbours hate it lol

If it's only happening on deceleration, it's the pair valves.
It annoyed the crap out of me, that's why I got rid of them.

Indeed... Pair system tends to clog and stay open when it shouldn't (when engine temp reaches a value, the valve should close)resuting on this simptoms. Most of the people around just remove the system and their problems go away, but IMHO having it will improve catalytic converter life as it speeds up exhaust to reach working temp and also improves contamination values when starting the bike. Anyway, its a complicated system for a small improvement and its removal is also justified.
    It's all up to you.

Just check all hoses and did the flapper mod as well as the pair.
Farting reduced and defintely a smoother ride through the 4-5k... Seems counter intuitive that a company would seemingly tune down its engine performance/smoothess of operation.
Thanks for all the help i was pretty scared i was riding a dud.
This weekend will be a weekend on the saddle... :) :)

No... It's not just tuning down the engine, they had to met the emission requirements of the Kyoto Protocol.. (more info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Protocol)
When i first purchased the bike, all my thoughts were like yours, but time has passed on and now i'm on the other side, i'll keep it as stock as i can to contribute to this bigger movement... And one day if i can, i'll purchase a electric car, and just hold the vfr for the love of it.
We can make this world a better place little by little, and this is one is my little bit. You wont gain any noticeable hp's without all the emission control stuff, but you'll feel a little bit better every day if you leave them on the bike.
    Just my thoughts. Enjoy!
