    Hi fellow riders,

Something I noticed today;- Photobucket has changed their terms of service, which means that now the free, entry-level membership can't be used to direct-link your forum photos (which is ridiculous, when you consider that Photobucket provide you with the "[ img ]" tags/codes needed to do exactly that!). They were also getting silly with the number of pop-up ads, screen obscures, and other rubbish, so from me, it's buh-bye!

I've started shifting my images over to Imgur instead, which does allow direct-linking from a free account. If you spot any links on the forum with the Image Missing or Exceeded blech, let me know and I'll update the link.

    Cheers - Cam

Hmm, good to know but I have a paid account as my storage usage had gone beyond the limit of the free space they give you. I have to wonder though, will they start raising the cost and hold my pics ransom if I don't pay the increase? I'm guessing they got too big for their own good and this is a way to curb the free use and give those who have paid accounts a slight benefit. VFRWorld has a similar attribute, where if you donate to the site, the ads disappear.

Ya. I am in agreement with you that Photobucket has gone down the toilet as far as the free service goes. But someone has to pay for the service to operate so they give the breaks and better service to those who pay the fee. Then they do whatever they can to get the freebees to sign up for a paid subscription. That is marketing. Can't argue too much about that.

I would have been willing to pay a small monthly fee to keep stuff on Photobucket, but they want $400! Effe them!

One of the members on VFRD mentioned this service PIWIGO. http://piwigo.org
You can host it yourself but probably means you need an IT level understanding of servers, SQL databases and other IP related stuff that $40/year would handle. http://piwigo.org/hosting/

I've moved all my links to IMGur. Photoborkit just borked their business model, watch as their users desert them.

I hardly ever use photo bucket and have about 50 images on it but if makes it a real pain in the arse if you are reading a long thread on a website and most of the images are missing, especially as I like to 'see' something if I cannot quite make out what is being described in the thread, must be a thing about getting older
