when i got my new 2005 vfr I signed on with Primmum (a division of Meloche-Monnex) which is all run by td bank. First year rate was $1150 and they stipulated I had to have an alarm system with a slew of features that the average hundred dollar noisemaker alarm doesn't have. $400 alarm later I had insurance and that was the best rate i found here in N.B. That was FULL coverage, so I went for it. The very next year my statement came and keep in mind I have had a perfect record for 10 years for both car and bike, and those #$!#@ wanted $3200 for the same coverage I paid 1150 for a year earlier:eek: . I naturally called to see what the deal was, and was told that they are losing too much money on that segment of motorcycle insurance, and the high premium was their way of getting the people who drive "crotch rocket type" bikes away from Primmum. I thought I was screwed, but searched and found an agent who gave me full coverage like I had for $1050/year, and I can have it withdrawn from each paycheck automatically over the course of the year. It's not much fun having to fight for a decent rate every year, and I have NOTHING good to say about Primmum. When I talked to my local parts canada dealer he said that one of the higher-ups at Primmum insurance is part owner of an alarm company and that is a big reason why the alarm had to meet such exact specifications (ie: the same specs as the alarm company he is invested in). Can anyone confirm this or was this guy just a conspiracy theorist?? sorry for the long rambling post.......

I was also forced into an alarn system... $700 full featured scorpio system was all they pretty much would approve . Primmum are total cork soakers. I have since switched to riders plus and couldnt be happier.

I'm insured with State Farm and pay $550 for full coverage, that's including collision. Primmum couldn't come close, and no alarm needed. The only stipulation was they wanted me to insure my car also and they were pretty close to primmum there too.

    Although my original insurance company
canceled my insurance due to the fact you had to lean

Your not too far off..I agree with you..as a side note...I came from a REAL commy province..MB, you bc guys better not complain till you live there and pay pay pay!!! so lets not get into that discussion!! BUT the only thing they did right was the public insurance..I imagine they will clean it out shortly!!

anyway..the public insurance is a bargain for auto's, but yep we pay more for toys, but even so my bike in bc is way less than mb..there it says its good for a year, but you can't cash it in in the fall, if you do its all prorated for the 4 months called summer..here at least 6 months is half the bill..400$ for my vfr for the basic..and the rest i do private at around 300 for the full year...

    insurance

    hey whitestar.

got my insurance through a broker here in edmonton. the carrier is jevco which was the cheepest by far. for my '06 it is $500 a year and that is full load, pl, pd, theft and collision. they specialize in bikes so they might be a company to look at.

Great thread, and lots of responses!! Thx for the tips.

I found $900 with Riders plus. full coverage, $500 deductable, no alarm required. Goes to $700 next year since I haven.t insured a bike in 5 years.

My normal insurance co. wanted $2700 though Kingsway, which BTW also underwrites Riders Plus.

$900 is better than TD. This is my 2nd year with them and yet I am still paying $1200. Definitely change it next year when it is due for renew.

Have not tried it yet, but I hear if you tell the insurance company the amount of cc's your bike is instead of what it is called it will be a little lower. A example would be a VFR 800 is actually a 788.

I tried to get insurance through Melouche Monnex, (my truck is insured through them), but, they said "no, that's a sport bike. We don't insure sportbikes." So - I pay what is offered up here...which is very high - for the 5 month riding season.

My Insurance Broker quoted me $550 ($600 rounding up) for a 1993 VFR750 with Liability (1 Mil). Fire/Theft would put me up to about $750. Now that is with the bike insured out of Burlington, Ontario. I have had my M2 for four years and riding with Insurance through Kingsway for 2 years. Jevco apparently give nice breaks when you turn 30.

Someone posted about having 3 tickets. The problem you will have is that most Insurance companies will give you a surcharge (around 15%) if you have 3 minors on your license. I have two at the moment so I decided to inquire with my Broker.
