    IMG_4242.JPG IMG_4243.JPG IMG_4244.JPG IMG_4246.JPG Hi all,

I am new to the site and new to The riding community. I recently purchased a 2001 VFR800 on craigslist for $1000. The bike has 55,000 miles on it. See the pics I uploaded. The guy that I purchased it from told me there was a fuel pump problem.

While riding The engine bogs down and will sputter and backfire. Also when I touch the brake ( Front or rear ) it dies.

So I replace the fuel pump. Same exact issues. Not sure where to go from here. I have already ruled out that the battery is good and it's doing it's job.

    Any ideas?

Blocked injectors ? Does it idle correctly ? Must be fuel related
It looks good for $1k . For that kind of money here in the UK you'd get a box with some bits in

I've pointed to the wiring because he said that when he touches the brake it dies

Thanks! I am not sure about the injectors. Idles fine at 1200-1300 rpm. As soon as I touch the break I get a F1 light.solid light.. no blinking. As soon as I release the break the light goes away.

Thanks so much for the response. Should I inspect the wiring? Anything in specific?

Usually fuse box, tail lights and relays tend to corrode maybe your case is related to fuses and earth connections

You've got a long chapter on the repair manual about fuel injection, read it througly and you'll find a clue for sure. This bikes are very easy to diagnose with the adequate tools and patience.

Does the FI light glow on and off with your blinkers?
If it does, I would start by looking at your earth block.
If you type it into the search on this site, I'm sure you will find some posts with pictures.

What about the kickstand switch? In my case it was bad, full of dirt and was trolling me while on highway...
Did you investigate the issue any further? You let the bike on gear while it dies slowing down and the fi light turns on and of as you touch the brake? Does it matter if its the front or the rear brake?
The more clues you give us the more we can help :)
    Good luck!

Wow.. Thanks for all the responses. This is great. I am going to take the faring's off and inspect further tonight. The FI light only comes on when i squeeze the brakes both front and rear. Also when I switch on the highbeams. Pretty much anything that draws power causes the bike to stall or almost stall. I may make a youtube video tonight and post the link.

You guys are great. What an amazing community.
