Motorcyclist sentenced to 8 months for loosing control of bike, driving into parade crowd
    Thursday, September 06, 2007
EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) A man accused of driving his motorcycle into a crowd at a Veterans Day parade and injuring several children was sentenced to eight months in jail.

Richard Banker of Clinton Township pleaded no contest Wednesday to drunken driving causing an accident and failing to stop.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. In addition to the jail time, Banker was ordered to serve three years of probation.

Six adults and five children, ages 10 to 17, were treated for injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to a broken leg after the crash last November in the Detroit-area community of Eastpointe.

Witnesses said Banker was part of a unit of motorcyclists nearing the end of the parade route when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson, which jumped a curb and plowed into a group of at least 50 people.

    "lost control...which jumped a curb"
Drunk and/or inexperienced enough to forget how to pull a lever with each hand?
I'd like to hear the whole story.
    Speed?
    Age?
    Experience?
    BAC?
WTF is a "unit of motorcyclists"?
Why would you be going quick enough to injure 11 people in a parade route?
    Idiot.

I fear for our sport sometimes. More often than I should lately.

I think it would have been more appropriate to start that article with man was sentenced to 8 months. I am a motorcyclist and this is a classic example of the media trying to generate contempt/hate for something that they do not understand - that whole story stunk. I wish I wouldn't have gotten lured into the ambulance chase. On the other hand the guy was probably a lawyer, LOL.

That & the way fines & penalties have been with cages doing like stupidity, ending up with a small fine & a reguler DUI offense.
But although stupid & wrong what he did, because of the M/C being envolved, his punishment was worse.

The law's should be the same for cages & bikes with out Bias.
