Met him once back in 2000 at Laguna, came around the corner to their tent, and wouldn't ya know it, there he was just chatting it up with folks, I had a chance to shake his hand and wish him luck that day. First impression was, he's a really down to earth kid, even then. He will be missed be so many. Prayers to the Family

 

So sad. I met Nicky a couple times and even got to do hot laps with him one of the times I went to Freddie Spencer's School. He was super nice and personable.

 

Well, f*ck. This sucks.

As horrible as it is, from a quality of life standpoint, it appears that his passing may have been the best outcome. The latest American MotoGP Legend will always be remembered as one of the true good guys. It is never supposed to go this way.

 

I think Duccmann mentioned this before but when we were at the WSBK race and he was signing autographs, there was a cut off time as he was scheduled elsewhere that afternoon. There was still quite a long line when he had to leave and instead of just leaving, he walked down the line and was signing autographs as he was leaving.

I was also able to meet him and speak with him briefly at the D-Store grand opening just before he went to WSBK. A lot of people at the event were involved in the industry but there were also many guest who weren't and most were surprised on how friendly and approachable he was. I feel sad that we lost him but even more so for his fiancé and family.

This was taken at the D-Store event. You're going to be missed Nicky.
