One or both of mine are pulsing at slow speed when on the brakes. I ain't paying $255 each for OEM!! Who has had good success with what brands more reasonably priced?

Have you done the "bobbin cleaning routine"? There are videos on u-tube and a thread on here about how to do it, very easy, may solve your pulsing problem.

Yea do the bobbin check. fwiw, I have a friend up here that had the pulse thing going on, he tried a a lot to no avail, and like you said no way I'm I buying new oem......guess what. That's what he ended up doing after his research. IIRC He did go through like a euro outlet I believe getting them at as good as a deal as possible.

Been looking at alternative rotors as well. To be honest, they aren't that much cheaper! I was looking into the EBC 'Vee' rotors but even those are at least $390+ from various online vendors. There are some decent OEM rotors on eBay right now but they are used and my be in a similar condition to yours. The only rotors that are within a "reasonable" price IMO, are the Chinese rotors and I'm a little hesitant on going that route...

Well that's not it. All bobbins turned easily with a bolt and nut. Pads only have 2k-3k on them but guess I'll pull the calipers and check them...

You might want to check the run out on the rotors while you're at it.

Silly question maybe, I've done my fair share of brakes and once in a while a re bleed made it much better. My thinking is being these calibers are a floating style, maybe the caliber is hanging on a bit to much? just a thought.

Although they may turn easily with a nut & bolt they need to be free floating. Use a can of brake cleaner on them. If when you spray them and dirt comes out then they are not free enough, it is not - can you turn them with a nut, bolt & 1/2 inch ratchet...

Also get a Brillo pad and some brake or contact cleaner and scrub your rotor braking surface down really well. You may have brake pad residue on the rotor that you're feeling, as it makes the rotor slightly thicker in places. That's also a cheap thing to try and should be done regulator anyway. Motorcyclist Online has a video of it, and it's also a common discussion in the auto world.

The pulsing is something that I also have noticed. Maybe it is related to the Y2K bikes?

I have to schedule in a bunch of maintenance items before I put too many miles on this year. This will be one of them, hoping that the floating/stuck thing is the source of the problem on my bike. AFAIK, original pads, less than 12K miles on the bike.

Because of the cost of new rotors, I have been wondering if there is anyone out there who has the proper equipment to machine/regrind the surface, to assure that they are actually true?

You guys are talking about performance and I'm fretting over accent color - which color rotor carriers look better?

    black?

You're ok Sfd....I'm preferring the light shinny brass version. or whatever they call it, over black.

Thanks RVFR. I'm locked into the gold now, as the black carriers are part of my friend's 6th gen makeover. He's got a great aesthetic coming together with black lower bits, pearl white wheels, and the black rotor carriers [Thread w pics to be started soon].

Now THAT is the 8-spoke calling the kettle white, Jay, considering that you have finished your wheels is some complex compound of anti-static white that repels all particles of dirt and brake dust! Your wheels never have a speck on them.
