Oil Change Intervals with sythentic honda oil?

    Hey all, I know that I had the standard oil change at 600miles. I should have done it earlier with the post that I saw back in the day. But I did have them put the Honda full synthetic oil in after that. I may have done some damage due to some comments. but I am hitting 3400 miles. Should I change out the oil on my standard 3,000 miles or stick to the synthetic rule of 7,000 miles. let me know uber VFR gods. Thanks In advance.

    I haven't heard that you have different change intervals of synthetic and semi-synthetic so I'll be watching this thread with great interest (IIRC it's 4000ish miles (6000km) on oil change per the manual)

    Just put the right viscosity in it. What does your owner's manual say? Do you put more creedence in a bunch of forum strangers or Honda, the company that designed and manufactured the motorcycle?

    I am very conservative and change synthetic on the same schedule as regular. It probably is too early but I have peace of mind and all my engines in bikes and cages and boats have very long lives.

    Remember the guys that Honda guys that wrote the book also made the rectifiers. lol

    I am not the best tech person here by far. But have the longevity on my bike that I think give me some credibility. Follow the same schedule in the book or better. For the first year, I was changing mine every 5K km but realized I was spending money that did not need spending and switched to every 10K km on the zeros. That is still 2,000 km earlier than manual recommendations but easier to remember. The other day I crossed the 204,000 km mark. That is close enough to say 127,000 miles.

    The Honda factory service manual states 8000 mi interval. As an Amsoil dealer, I know of NO 7000 mi rule. Stick to pure synthetics, factory intervals and you will be fine. Save your money, no need to change at 3000 any more. If you want, I will scan the maintenance chart from the book so that your not relying on opinions.

    I'm an Oil nut, I tend to play on the safe side of this one. so change it often, not only in miles, but time as well. anything after 6 months is out along with as 3 thousand miles. I have personally seen the diff so... Anywho there is a lot of this and that on the subject. I say do what works for you. On another note, if and when I do a track day, I'm changing it the day after. Oh yea full synthetic too using Amsoil.

    Just because you use synthetic doesn't mean your intervals should be any different.

    The oil still becomes contaminated every bit as quickly. Synthetic just does a better job suspending it ... it will still become saturated with contaminants at the same rate as regular oil. I just provides better protection, not longer intervals.

    I change mine every ~6,000 km (~3,800 miles) .. this usually when I start feeling a change in the shifter. I could easily go longer, but why? Oil is cheap insurance.

    No harm in changing more often if it makes you feel better. It is the polymers in non-synthetic oil that start breaking down as soon as you start using engine, those are the contaminates. I disagree with your statement that pure synthetics become contaminated just as quickly.

    I grew up in my fathers diesel machine shop working on engines and have worked with polymers and other chemistry, but hey, what do I know. :p

    I've been enjoying watching Delboy's Garage videos. I like that he has a no BS point of view on things and does a great job of explaining stuff to those non-technical folks.

    I heerd that if ya use one a them K&N filters ya don't have to change oil. I wish I could remember if an old Chinese guy said that or a harleydood.

    I love those Vern Deesil movies too.

    Because the K&N changes the oil for you, well at least it drains it for you. Up to you to put more back in!
