At what speed do you consider it riding a bike? And what do you call riding a bike at 2 mph?

I spoke to a rider three weeks ago at a motorcycle show that said she doesn't counter steer or use her front brake. ( as we were both watching a motorcycle riding infomercial on a huge screen)I asked her if she was an organ donor.

Great comeback, she must ride in a straight line all the time! Counter steering is how a bike turns, laws of physics, understanding that is a different matter, maybe she leans alot or does even know she is doing it!

She does, she just doesn't know it. There's no other way of steering above 25-30 mph. Still really bad!

Having low sided not that long ago coming off the same off-ramp I've taken countless times and pretty much at the same speed and line I've done the same countless times, I'll have to agree, SHIT HAPPENS and choosing the wrong tires is surely a pilot error!

Some of the riders in this new study are very inexperienced. It would have been useful to correlate the types of crashes and near-crashes with rider experience.

My favorite finding? “Whether called a turn, corner, or curve, changing direction requires special attention.”

The Hurt Report data was collected from souces in the greater LA Basin in the 1970s. The reason for the locale was because of motorcycle saturation in that locale. Bottom line or lines they were looking of the reasons mostly for fatal crashes and the general conclusion was that dudes were riding sloshed on hootch.

The magazine may or may not have been in existence then and If memory serves, the vaunted University published white papers paid for by Ma Bell on the delights of having cell pnones in cars and that it was fine to use them at will. This aboot the time The State of NY, all of OZ and France all said no and banned the use unless stopped. God bless studies and statistics..

Intersections are your enemy whether on your bike or approaching one in a car/cage. Road conditions, and lighting. Also, time your riding; rush hour in the rain on the cusp of New Years Eve.

Learning the hard way hurts. Common Sense sometimes don't prevail. :peace:
