    Duccmann,
Randy just has to ride South to get there. Some of us have to ride further than that West before heading South. It would take more time than I have available.
Although now that the happy hooker has offered custom crotched man thongs (a banana hammock some call it) for some of the Canadian hooligans it's much harder to say no...

Very true. Riding to R3 from, here is similar to riding to Winnipeg from here. That is only half way to Guelph even taking the shorter US rout there. Strangely enough though, it is a few hours less going from Guelph to Atascadero than Guelph to Chilliwack. And a far better destination. There is very little if any odours of cow shit in Atascadero. Chilliwack on the other hand?......

No, think this is what you are thinking of and what I was too. Still by band Chilliwack. WOW! Used to love this song. Still have the 45 record of it too and Holy Crap!.....I have that exact same Pioneer PL-516 turntable in the video and it still works! I am still spinning the vinyl, as they say. Never realized the band was actually name of city. Friday's 80s Flashback!

Umm - I was also wondering whether the problems which you had with your bike during your Canada trip were sorted or continuing?

I guess if the bike ran OK for many weeks after your return then you may actually be dealing with a totally new problem. So after your return did you take the bike out on any full day trips without having issues?

My initial thought was that the bike finally seemed to be running OK once Jeff removed that aftermarket USB battery tender unit which you had hard wired to the battery, and made sure the battery terminals were secure.

I really think the user instructions for USB outlets and battery tenders are often very poor and fail to stress they really need to be taken from an ignition on circuit rather than direct from the battery terminals.

As for the recent clock reset issue sounds a lot more like the classic RR about to fail symptoms. I fear you will be doing "The Drill" fairly soon.

Hence I hope you have fitted a volt meter to monitor the state of charge. Whilst it won't prevent a charging system failure, it will give you a heads up if something is not right, and allow you to head for some place safe before the remaining charge in the battery is drained and you are left stranded.

As for a possible short in the wiring, you can do a basic test for this by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and connecting a multi-meter in line and set to monitor the amps flowing through the meter - take care with the connections! Assuming your bike has no alarm system fitted, then with everything on the bike turned off, there should be no amps = no short. If there is an obvious drain, start pulling fuses to identify the circuit where the fault lies.

As for setting up a mid states R3 - that's a great idea. You will never find a date or location which will work for everyone, so by all means canvass views on possibilities, but don't wait too long if you are aiming for 2017, as people may already be making plans. Once you find a date/venue which works for a few of you - lock it down and advertise it by creating a new thread.

    Good luck

I already created the thread a while ago ... Black Hills must be done in early spring (which conflicts with R3) or in late fall to avoid massive tourist traffic and enjoy it the most. Also avoid the ridiculous heat that way. :p

I think the dash reset was the only issue she's had since I cleaned all her ground terminals, ensured good connections on the battery post, and removed the USB. I've also sent and fitted one of my wiring harnesses that run parallel with the OEM charging system. This boosted her charging voltage significantly to 14.7v from 14.15v.

I have yet to do a amperage leak test ... maybe if I find myself down in Kansas again sometime soon I can help her with that. :)

Still not working, so I'd like to take my VFR700 for a ride. Still cold here. Just had snow this weekend. I'm also in school for another week. Otherwise I'd go to the MotoGP. Planning a ride this summer?

Glenn!! Snow in April?! So lucky, but I can imagine you are through with it...

Would be so awesome if you can come to MotoGP sometime! Is this your last semester of school? I'm graduating in a few weeks from master's program. Soooo happy to be finished!

Yes, I am leaving next month for California, Canada, and Alaska. Will spend a couple days in Calgary doing moto prep woth vf1000fe who is riding Alaska with me.

You should ride to CA and bomb R3 with your moto on steroids!! You will have the beefiest VFR there! If you don't make it down there, let's see about getting together when I'm up near Calgary ... either before I leave for Alaska or after. :) <3

Next weekend, after MotoGP, I will be finalizing the trip itinerary and will send it your way. :)

Godspeed, and pretty please watch for wildlife. Having hit a deer, I can tell you No Fun. I did a car club drive last summer through Glacier Peak into Canada--same areas you're going through--and we were shocked at how many deer were loitering by and crossing the highway after 6.

But, BC is astonishing; the Canadian Rockies are incredible, and the roads are generally in better shape than ours.

Finally, Canadian excessive speeding penalties are draconian: http://www.bcdrivinglawyers.com/excessive-speeding/
