Update: It's been a month or so now. Thanks for the help/advise, everyone. Thanks skoholm for taking the time to talk to me. I appreciate it. The issue resolved. I was planning on going to small claims court after talking to skoholm. A day or so later I got laid off work with no notice, about the same time the shop called me and suggested I do an airtech tail section, $700 will get it done. I didn't want to do this, but I had an ongoing health problem that needed attention. Doctor appointments were taking up my time/money and patients for everything. So I threw that idea out to alex, he said he'd pay, so I OK'd it. I payed $200 to Alex for the parts the shop didnt want to use. He payed $500 to the shop. So, here I am now.. a month or so later. I've barely given one thought about bike since those decisions were made. Priorities have changed, and I guess I was/am trying to detox from the whole situation as well as my feelings about it. And I don't really have any feeling about it now..which I'm cool with. Whats done, is done. Should I have handled most things differently? Yup. COuld I have made better decisions? Yup, probably. I'm out $200, gained even more tail sections parts, and will have shittier quality parts on my VFR which is still in the shop.. But, solid lesson learned. I'm ok financially now, health problem is not fixed, but under control. No great job yet, but working for someone part time, bills are paid. And in the mean time building furniture (my side business) has grown enough to make its self money, as well as buy new tools, and pay me enough to buy a new project bike that I am really excited about.

This sounds cruel but, this far out, it's as much your fault as his since you didn't deal with it on a timely, firm basis. Your "friend" knows exactly what he's doing. He has no scruples and knows he can take advantage of you because you let him do it already. Before you go to court, you better have overwhelming proof that he botched your bike since he will deny knowing anything about it. Then it's your word against his then you lose. Pick your friends better. Also, what others have said....move on and write down what you learned.

Well the shop just texted me saying they got the airtech tail section in, theyre prepping for paint, and disassembling my old tail section when they found a broken tab on the tail light housing and also right blinker, that they didn't see on initial inspection, so theyre now asking for $200 from me for new parts. Fucking a.

Tossing oot statements like that, could be detrimental to the bad boy image you work so hard to promote.

That's a shitload of reading. Maybe I could cobble a few choice examples together, toss in a couple of blues chords and be a one hit wonder.

Some ass wipes don't think they have to be responsible for anything. Yes you could sue him in civil court but honestly I'd just cut my loss and move on. Not worth the time and money.
