Pasadonuts certainly was flavor country back then. Not at all the same now, for better or worse.

Some kids at an open mic pulled a Fleet Foxes cover out of their ass last night. Rare to hear four people doing harmonies, much less something hard. But they nailed it, so it got me listening to that album again. I'm over it, though. I'll switch to something heavy after lunch so I don't fall asleep.

Oh yeah the Urban Cowboy soundtrack was great - here's another song from it - but the movie kind of sucked as I recall :witless:

    RIP Glenn Frey

That was #8 on the list. The film was shot in and around Houston. Texas audiences are not very PC.. Whenever some scene in the film was off, it was vocally noted.

Travolta was a little too close to a shitkicker version of Vinnie Barbarino. Winger was radiant.

I suppose the pornflick drivein is long gone but how about the KKK store? I have not been to Pasadena in years. Probably all urbanized with a McDonalds and indoor plumbing by now. Fill me in, my friends in Houston don't go there much..

Gilly's was a hop and a skip from my place in Houston. Folks who have in mind the movie is what Gilly's was have not been there. The shitkicker thing was a weekend gig. During the week it was a dance joint with usually an 8-9 piece cover band of pro musicians. Sometimes a little short on Mondays which as you know is "dark night". The pros would head over to a local dinner theatre near the Astrodome and join in a big band led by John Park. Sometimes the band was as many as 30 pieces. The University of Houston's music department and the Music department of TSU have several whole books of famous bands. UoH for instance has the entire Woody Herman book.

I think the Fleet Foxes may be a group of the past. Their harmonies remind me of "The Winter Consort". Word had it in their day, all the dudes were schooled musicians. Many of the Seattle and vicinity middle and high schools have great music programs.

Driving home from the Robert Cray / Boz Scaggs show in Clearwater - they were great! Here's a couple songs from the show - I'll upload more to my YT channel tomorrow if interested in seeing more. Just got passed on the causeway between Clearwater and Tampa by 3 bikes that were doing about 170mph - yikes.

If they were Harleys, the estimate might be somewhat inflated. Or was that the average estimated speed of all three bikes? ;)

LOL - definitely not Harleys - I was going about 80 and they flew by me like I was standing still - too fast to get a good look but they sounded like literbikes at redline. The causeway is like 10 miles long so it's apparently a popular place to do that sort of thing.

There's a floating bridge in Seattle that stretches across the South part of Lake Washington. Years back this was being used as the local drag strip for liter bikes ect., until the Washington State started putting out info that they were going to employ spike strips on the bridge. Nothing like a blowout at the ton+ to get somebody's attention. Psychological warfare...

I am hearing rock riffs on Bill Whelan's original music from the 1994 "Riverdance." Not much similarity in the choreography IMO..

Just heard this groovy tune on the radio - the DJ said KC & the Sunshine Band will be performing later this month at the Food and Wine fest in O-Town so I may have to go :glee: I was surprised to see when looking up a vid for this song that it came out in '83 and went to #1 in England, I would have guessed it came out in the late 70s.

Damn! I just looked up the DP tour and the closest they get to Fla is freaking Texas and Ohio :( I might have to catch a plane to see them somewhere. Yes I looked up their tour schedule and they're playing the Greek on 8/13. Last time (only time actually) I saw them in '85 and I'm guessing the ticket was maybe $17?

For some reason seeing "Deep Purple" and "Greek" in the same sentence reminds me of this song :glee:
