I have cows for neighbors. My biggest concerns, camping in my back yard, is fire ants.

That is no way to speak of that lady next door. She is probably just lonely. Go see her for a service.

There are plenty of tents that pack up very small and light that will accommodate you + some gear (maybe not side/top boxes). Mine is an REI 2-3 person backpacking tent. With stakes, weighs about 6 pounds and fits snugly in the bottom of a backpacking backpack. Basically, if there is a kind of function you want like..."I want a small, light tent for me and my gear!", it exists and it's on REI, so you can go look there for ideas and then start searching for used stuff.

Yep..REI's flagship store is spectacular and even better they do not sell junk and they back up all sales with warrantees. This is a Seattle tradition with some stores. Read that "some" not all..

Been a REI member for a very long time. Nice to get a co op check at the end of the year too.

Started buying their stuff the first Winter I spent in Seattle. Still have a nice down coat from that same year. Forgot about those co op checks. Their repair and general advice on repairing stuff is excellent. Have you been in the old or new store? The old store had a bunch of Wolfe prints lining the walls. Dye transfers I think.. Old school...;)

I have been to those stores and others in Colorado too. Very cool.m Their return policy's are excellent and they have a very good knowledge base in their personnel, they actually use their gear in the outdoors.

    +1 on backpacking tent
Lightweight. Tiny. I could fit in my side bags if needed. Fits me and my gear (snuggly).
This is what I have but you would want bigger.
Can't remember if I linked to it, but too sick to go back and look so here it is:

Basically, not the cheapest, not the most expensive.
Has done it's job well. And still will.
